1: Rick Riordan (whose full name is Richard Russell Riordan) was born on June 5, 1964. | He was born in San Antonio, Texas.
2: His mom is a teacher, musician, and artist. His dad is a teacher and ceramist. | He has a wife Becky and two sons Haley and Patrick.
3: He has one dog that is a Golden Labrador mix. | He also has two black cats.
4: He went to Alamo Heights High School is San Antonio and was an editor in the school newspaper. He got third place in state for UIL feature writing | He got in trouble for publishing an underground newspaper that made fun of the school. He especially made fun of the losing football team who latter egged his car.
5: He went to North Texas State for college because he was going to be a musician and they had a really good music program. | Then he transferred to the University of Texas.
6: He graduated with a double major in English and history. | Then he earned a certificate to teach English and history.
7: He worked as an English and history teacher for 15 years at public and private school. | He taught in the San Fransisco Bay area and Texas. He won the first Saint Mary's Hall Master Teacher Award in 2002.
8: He liked Greek and Norse mythology since he was in middle school. | In high school he read mostly fantasy and science-fiction.
9: In college he read mostly mysteries. | The first books Rick Riordan read for fun was the Lord of the Rings series. He probably read it ten times.
10: On his free time he likes to read, swim, play guitar, and travel. | He also plays video games on the Wii and World of Warcraft.
11: He doesn't have a favorite book that he wrote because he likes them all for different reasons. | His favorite characters are probably Grover and Tyson (from Percy Jackson and the Olympians) because they are fun to write about.
12: The first story he submitted for publication was when he was 13 but it wasn't published. | His first published works were two short stories in the University of Texas San Antonio literary magazine.
13: Rick Riordan liked teaching and was reluctant to leave but he had to quit to write full time on his books and to meet the deadline. | He might go back to teaching but right now he is busy writing books.
