 The Riley Family 2010 Yearbook

Nana, Papa, Dante, Uncle Ryan, Ronan, Uncle Pat, Dad, Cullen and Donovan all ring in 2010!

 Happy Birthday!

 30 Years Old

 Happy Birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY | Pat and Kylene | Dante tries not to blow out a candle!

Kylene's 30th Birthday kicked off with a birthday cake at midnight. Little did she know we had a gathering planned. | Maeve tries out Dante's mask.

We surprised Kylene with a birthday gathering of family and friends at Hacidenda in Michigan City. Kristina isn't a very good cover, though, because Kylene said she suspected something.

This winter, Maeve helped "recycle" the Sibling Tree as a bird feeder by putting a little peanut butter and bird seed on the branches. The neighborhood squirrel, however, though it was especially tasty!

Kristina welcomed her 40s with class and style as Tim hosted a grand surprise party in the upper dining room of The Scholar's Inn. Tim organized an entire weekend of friends, family and fun entirely unbeknownst to Kristina! It was an event so grand it required its own entire album!

This year, instead of making the typical valentines for class, Ronan, Donovan and Maeve chose to make Shrinky-Dink keychains for classmates. What a fun project!

The best is that all the brothers helped Maeve with her window masterpiece! It's a sweet moment and speaks to the boys' character. | Window Art! I love nothing more than to see creativity blossom, no matter the medium. I also love beautifully-decorated windows

Art on the River! Each year, Riverside Junior High has an arts festival which displays artwork from students in the school. As part of the event, the art rooms host hands-on experiences. It's the most fun event the school offers, I think. This year, the woodshop added a woodworking experience. That was loads of fun!Maeve and Ronan were especially involved.

There was a time when our living room was constantly filled with blankets fashioned into forts, hideouts, tents, houses or caves. Those days seem to be fewer and farther between, but they do still happen. There's nothing like classic play. Play between siblings is especially rewarding to witness (when it's friendly). Here, Donovan and Maeve built a cave and hung out in it for the majority of a cold early-spring day.

At our old house, our sidewalk and front porch were constantly decorated with tempera paints. The neighbors in Fishers don't seem to care for it too much, but I pay them no mind.

Each year, Fishers Elementary School has a Young Authors writing project in which all grades participate. We always look forward to attending the Young Authors event to see what all the children have written. It's become quite a tradition for us to attend! | Our young author, Donovan Riley! | How hilarious that one of Donovan's classmates used him as a character in his book!

Life is... A Walk in the Park

Nana and Papa came for a visit in the early spring. We had a unusually warm day and decided to go for a walk at Fort Benjamin Harrison.

Exotic Feline Rescue Center | I never get tired of gong to this place. The cats are majestic and lovely. The mission of the place is amazing. | Cloverdale, Indiana

We went to the EFRC with the Vermeulens. Afterward, we picnicked in a nearby state recreational area and enjoyed a hike. | Donovan, Griffin, Jake, Cullen, Ronan, Owen and Maeve. Poor Maeve--frequently the only girl.

Easter is a time that reminds us that all life is cyclical. All life continues on even though at one time the landscape appeared barren. All things

New Life At the Zoo | Much as with Conner Prairie, the zoo is a great place to go in the spring. New life abounds, but his was a first for us--baby lemurs!

We took this outing with Ben, Oliver and Judy Lam. It seems that, to a child, the zoo is ever-changing. We can take a lesson from them.

 Maeve is 5! Pirate Party!

Up to this time, we had thrown three pirate parties. Thank goodness we tend to keep things laying around. It didn't take much to pull out the pirate face and the Cannonball Cove game. A "girl" pirate cake, though? That took some thinking. | Make a Wish!

Everyone got in on the act! Tim kept the feminine pirates at bay, and Donovan was in charge of "Pin the X on the Map" | Birthdays are a family affair. Nana, Papa and Ryan came to join in on the fun!

Ronan helped set up all the games. Cullen helped run Cannonball Cove and the Treasure Hunt. | We threw a bunch of "gems" into the sandbox and the girls had to dig up the buried "treasure."

Cullen | After a couple of years of sports restriction due to Perthes disease, we were thrilled to see Cullen back at his love: athletics. He joined the Riverside Junior High track team and ran sprints. I was a bit skeptical at first (sitting in the hot sun isn't my favorite thing to do), but I found it thrilling to watch all the events!

 Seventh-grade Track

Earth Day It seems that the UU high holiday is Earth Day. Each year ,the children prepare a particular song to perform in the sanctuary and the Green Task Force plans a special project. It's a joy to see the children celebrate the web of life.

Ronan is our little entrepeneur. He always has a business plan in place. On this fine spring day, he decided to charge for bike parking in the garage. While it didn't turn out to be a lucrative business, the idea was good. He saw a need and tried to meet it, but the children just parked in the driveway, instead. Perhaps he should have offered valet service!

Mother's Day 2010 All of you constantly amaze me. I am thankful your souls found their way to mine.

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new. ~Rajneesh

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass…It's about learning to dance in the rain. | Proud Father and Mother! | Fallon's crazy shoes!

"Wherever you go, go with all your heart." ~Confucius | The family is one of nature's masterpieces. ~George Santayana | With only a couple of weeks notice, I managed to get out to D.C. to see Fallon get her MA. She'd been to all of my ceremonies, but I'd missed her previous ceremonies due to pregnancies. Not this time! We had a great time celebrating her success! | Kristina, Uncle Brian, Aunt Beverly, Cousin Fallon, Aunt Carla and Uncle Gordon

Cullen and Emmett were in preschool together, as were Ronan and Emmett's younger brother, Duncan.

All four of our children have attended the same preschool. Maeve's last day of pre-school marked the end of 10 consecutive years at the same school with the same teachers. They had all become family. This fact made this year's End-of-Year family picnic so very bittersweet as a chapter in our parenting lives closed for good. I had a very hard time this day, but "we have had a happy time...."
