S: Costa Rica Club Smed 2011

Club Smed 2011 After seven years of saving and one year of planning (mostly done by Rick), our trip of a lifetime finally began on Feb. 17, 2011. We boarded a plane in Toronto with one stop over in El Salvador and then on to San Jose, Costa Rica. Our first stop : Hotel Grand D'Oro, a beautiful 100 year old hotel. We stayed there overnight and the B.C. Smedings arrived early the next morning. Ralph and Linda were already at our destination. Finally we were on our way to Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, home of The White House!

After driving for about an hour and a half we took a one hour, scenic ferry ride and then back on the road again. But what were we getting into...?? Dirt roads, pot holes galore and dust, dust, dust! I think we were all a bit scared...

...but then we arrived at the White House and ALL WAS GOOD!

After settling in, we were very quickly in vacation mode. Davin our favourite caterer came on Friday evening and we started our vacation in style with a delicious meal.

The guys spent one day fishing. They all caught some fish except for poor Rick.

 Horseback Riding

ATV's One of the highlights was ATV'ing. It was the only real way to maneuver the bumpy dirt roads. Dust masks were a must and passenger's had to hold on tight. The best was on the beach!

Snorkeling was another adventure. It was amazing to see the many creatures all around us in the water. Miko caught crabs for dinner!

 Snorkeling

Costa Rica's Flowers It was incredible to see all of these tropical flowers growing in the gardens around the house. BEAUTIFUL!

WARNING: Not for the faint hearted! | ZIP LINING

We ventured out to restaurants twice while at the White House. Our favorite was this restaurant in the middle of nowhere. The owner had caught the fish that day.

We decided to cook for 2 nights, which was an adventure in itself. Let's just say there was no Fortinos nearby.
