BC: Once a Dragon.... Always a Dragon

FC: 2011 PHS Dragon Football | Senior Memories

To the Seniors of Football Season 2011 The Class of 2012 You have no idea what you have meant to the Purcell Football Program over the last 6 years as a group and what you mean to me as young men and future friends. You have grown up here at Conger Field. I have seen some of you go from little skinny ball boys on the sideline to grown young men. You are a genuinely nice group of people who are easy to be around. I know I am a bit different, but some of my favorite memories are watching some of you overcome some of the bad things that have happened to you, and you've done that quite well. Broken legs, hands, knees, and ankles, just some more stuff to overcome. Knocked out, knocked down, hurt, no hill is too high for the stubborn stepper. You have been major contributors to an offense that has been the most prolific in Purcell history. We have scored more points and amassed more yards than any group in Purcell History. Let me quantify some of the things you have done in your 4 year career. Through game 8 of your Senior season, you have won 33 games so far. You have been a part (rushing, catching, or throwing and kicking) of a total of 699 points (105 PATs and 99 TDs). Individuals in your class have rushed for 7,182 yards and scored 66 TDs in these past 4 years. Your class has contributed 64 catches for 1,225 yards and 16 TDs. Your class has thrown for 2,195 yards and 22 TDs. You have kicked 105 extra points. Defensively, your class has made 814 tackles, 12 interceptions, and 19 sacks. You have been major contributors to your team's success for 4 years. But your best quality has nothing to do with football necessarily, it is your stubbornness and tenacity. It's the reason you are so hard to beat and hard to coach sometimes and hard to convince to change your mind about almost anything. I will take stubborn with a will to win anytime. It has made you a really good football team that could be great, it has made you winners. It will serve you well for the rest of your life. Be stubborn- don't compromise- demand the best from yourself and the people around you. Mike Wilson Head Coach 2011 Purcell Dragons

2011 | We will never forget our Friday nights spent on this grass.... | OUR HOUSE...

To the class of 2012, I have had the pleasure and opportunity to watch most of you young men grow up from lizards to full fledge "DRAGONS". I can honestly say that each one you you has made me throw my hat over the course of your playing days. The memories that I have made through coaching this group of young men is beyond explaining. Coach Dillard | To the class of 2012, It is safe to say this has been four of the most prolific years in Purcell Football History. As your offensive coach, it has been very rewarding to watch you score and score some more. Through 3 years plus 8 games, the Dragons have rushed for an astonishing 11, 847 yards as a team. These are incredible numbers with the best yet to come! Good Luck, Coach Gower | To the class of 2012, I have had the opportunity to see every game and to coach most of you since the 7th grade. Lots of wins, a few losses, many ups, and many downs. My hope for you is that you will take many of the same lessons and values you have learned in football and translate them to the next phase of your life. As you move on, you will experience success, you will experience failure, as well as having many highs and lows. Remember, keep working towards your goals, just as you did in football, and you will find success in life. The class of 2012 has been a great example of what it means to be a Dragons. Remember one thing, no matter where you go or what you do, Once a Dragon, Always a Dragon. Coach Moring

When I feel that chill, smell that fresh cut grass I'm back in my helmet, cleats, & shoulder pads Standing in the huddle, listening to the call Fans going crazy for the Boys of Fall They didn't let just anybody in that club Took every ounce of heart & sweat & blood To get to wear those game day jerseys down the hall The kings of the school, man, we're the Boys of Fall Well it's turn to face the stars & stripes It's fighting back those butterflies It's call it in the air, all right, yes sir we want the ball And it's knocking heads & talking trash It's slinging mud & dirt & grass It's I got your Number I got your back When your back's against the wall You mess with 1 man, you got us ALL The Boys of Fall.... In little towns like mine, that's all they've got Newspaper clippings fill the coffee shops The old men will always think they know it all, Young girls will dream about The Boys of Fall........

Flag: Aaron Shobe | Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that. -Bill Shankley | There's no substitute for GUTS -"Bear " Bryant | I don't know if y'all are too stupid or too stubborn to give up... -Coach Wilson

To the class of 2012, You've made it to the end of a long, arduous journey. I want to congratulate you all on making it to this point. It hasn't always been easy and sometimes it has been challenging, but here you stand better men for having gone through it. The experiences you have had will serve you well as you go on through life. The lessons of perseverance hard work, and character will be ones you can draw on as the need arises. Cherish the times you have spent together as I will cherish the moments spent with you. Don't ever lose sight of your hopes and dreams. I have enjoyed the past 4 years and will always hold a special place for you all. Remember, Once a Dragon, Always a Dragon. Good luck and God Bless, Coach Tarp | To the Class of 2012, I have enjoyed coaching this group from your 8th grade year. You are a great bunch of guys who I have enjoyed being around and laughing with at practice. Coach Gray

This was my 1st year to help with football at Purcell, and it was a great experience for me. Even though I've been around this group of Seniors a short time, I know you're a great group of guys and you're destined to do great things. Everyday I see passion and love you have for the sport of football and the brotherhood you have with one another. I am proud to have been a part of your team and your lives. Dragon Pride!! Coach Nabors | To the class of 2012, A great team to be a part of. I appreciate the cohesiveness that this team has. Everyone worked together and pulled for each other and that makes it fun and successful! Coach Savage | To the Senior Football players, I have really enjoyed getting to know and work with each one of you. My favorite game was the Plainview game. It was deja vu for me, in that it reminded me of the team I played on my junior year of high school and all we accomplished. However, unlike my junior year, you all have the strength and determination to write your own destiny. You have Lone Grove and then you only have one more guaranteed game. After that, you control your destiny. You decide whether you just want to be part of another good team, or if together you want to become a great team. The choice is your's. Good luck in all that you do. Justin Howell, Student Coach

Friday Night Lights | Friday nights at Conger Field... It doesn't get any better

Dragon Brothers | Show class, have pride, and display character. If you do, winning takes care of itself. "Bear" Bryant

Saul Ibarra | #4 | "The catch vs Plainview on the sprint left, you running the window route- 4th & 10. Gain 11. One of the biggest plays of the season thus far." -Coach Wilson

#10 | Colton Wren | "Favorite Memory is the hit on the PV receiver your jr year. It was a big play when we needed it in a game we had to win to get in the playoffs. Not my favorite memory, but the one that will always stick with me and proves how much character you have is you going in the game vs Bridge Creek in a hopeless situation and still trying with all you had to make positives happen. You are one of the stubborn ones. Stubborn is a good quality." -Coach Wilson | "Mr. PRIDE & GUTS"!! Nothing! Prevents this one from being a DRAGON!! -Coach Savage

Matt Embree | #11 | "Glad you finally came out Matt and wish you could have been here with these guys all 6 years. Favorite Matt play so far is the pick on the wheel route that Washington tried to run (again)" -Coach Wilson | "BALL HAWK: If the ball comes his way, It's his!!" -Coach Savage

Evan Berry | #20 | PAT kicks have been incredibly accurate and consistent over the last 2 years. I know it's not a favorite memory of either of us, but the PAT that blew back through the goalposts and be the only miss on the year will always stick in my mind." -Coach Wilson

Cole Swayze | #23 | "Favorite Cole Swayze Memory is you running 4 GT vs Bethany in 2008 with Dustin and Orlando leading the way to the goal line. Scariest moment in my coaching career was watching you be loaded into the ambulance with what I knew was a broken leg and praying you'd be able to just walk again" -Coach Wilson | "Cole (See his back) Swayze- That's all you see when he runs by you!! Great leader too!" -Coach Savage

Tyler Selfridge | #24 | "Just seeing Tyler Selfridge in the game is one of my favorite things. I remember when you were the smallest, slowest receiver your freshman and sophomore years. You are the definition of a self made player. Favorite play (so far) is the fade route for a TD vs. Madill. Turned a close game into a victory" - Coach Wilson

Michael Hazer | #26 | "My favorite Michael Hazer play was the first TD you scored in 2009 against Washington on the counter (44 GT I think). You could tell you were scared and just got faster because of it." -Coach Wilson

Damian Shea | #28 | "My favorite Damian Shea play was a run you made in the playoffs vs Elgin your sophomore year. What a game. I thought you were going to be a pretty special player, and knew it for certain when you ran the Jet Sweep against Madill, you fumbled at the end, but you could see the explosion that you had." -Coach Wilson | "Unbelievable Determination! Mr. 100%" -Coach Savage

Dylan Wilson | #34 | "He'll Knock you into next week if you come up the middle!" -Coach Savage | "The hit on the first TD we scored against Sulphur on the LB#11. It was as perfect a lead block as one could be. So many hits on defense it's hard to pick out one. Pick vs Washington this year was a nice play too." -Coach Wilson

Blake Croslin | #38 | "My favorite Blake Croslin play is the pick vs PV in 2011 on the fade route. Too small to play especially on defense, but somehow finds a way to be on the field." -Coach Wilson

Nick Miller | #59 | "Scout team MVP for 2011. Plays against our biggest and best on a daily basis and never asks for favors. Glad you came back out for your Senior year Nick." -Coach Wilson

Gilberto Luna | #60 | "Favorite Memory here is listening to coach Gray get on to Gilberto for getting hurt in the most unusual ways. Gilberto has been a picture of consistency at center when he's been healthy the last 2 years." -Coach Wilson

Dalton Wilson | #61 | "After all the blocks and hits and plays that you always make, my favorite memory will always be the minute that Dylan got hurt in the Sulphur game in 2011 and the immediate concern you had for your brother was more than obvious!" -Coach Wilson | "Mr. Intensity (always fired up!)" -Coach Savage

Cornell Haley | #64 | "Corn-Nut: Favorite memories will be you and Dalton spouting off daily about who is the best, like 2 brother arguing, or seeing a fellow lineman do the big foot strut in honor of Jaren. Favorite play was a pancake block you made against Sulphur on one of Damian's big runs." -Coach Wilson

Hunter Knox | #65 | "Hunter's contributions have expanded greatly this year. Probably the scout team MVP last year. Those downs have paid off and now a big part of a deep and talented group of offensive linemen." -Coach Wilson

Austin Shobe | #67 | "Shobee: The pick vs PV 2011 was a big-time play. One of my favorites. Too small but somehow keeps finding a way to make plays." -Coach Wilson

Dillon Christian | #71 | "Big Dillon: One of my very favorite things is how you have developed from a big nice guy to a big good player. My favorite play was a trap play against Washington this year when you pulled and he tried to leverage you and you buried him. It was Impressive!" -Coach Wilson

Leroy Herrera | #79 | "My favorite thing is the stance. Not the prototypical defensive lineman, but you play with a fire that makes you a big part of our defense. Favorite play though is a trap block you made against PV in 2010 that sprung Damian for about 70 yards and a TD that helped with the game." -Coach Wilson

Aaron Shobe | The 12th MAN... we can't score without him | Thanks for all the TD runs you have made... here's to many more

"The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will" -Vince Lombardi | Well, here we are, Senior Night. We are so proud of what you've become. May this season continue on and not soon be over. Work hard, stick together, and never give up. Continue making memories. ..And don't forget to enjoy every minute of it.
