2: As of 2010, America is about 13 trillion dollars in debt. A tenth of all spending in America is a result of the rising rate of obesity. An article on the U.S.A. Today's website says, "Two-thirds of Americans are obese or overweight. Rising obesity will cost the U.S. healthcare three hundred forty-four billion dollars a year."" Do you think this spending should stop, or do you think this is a minor issue and government should mind their own business?
3: It is evident that the obesity rate in the United States is rising. According to Dr. Carolyn M. Clancy, " Today, seventy two million Americans are obese. Poor diet is the biggest reason why the obesity rate is so high. Statistics show that one in three heart attack or stroke deaths are due to being obese or overweight. (www.sciencedaily.com)
4: Everyone deserves to live long and happy life. However, many lives will be cut short because of poor diets. Obesity can shorten lives up to a decade, and moderate obesity can lower one's lifespan three years. Most American's want to live as long as they can, but sadly, they will not because of their diets.
5: Government should have say in our diets so healthcare costs would decrease, so the obesity rate would lower, and so American's would live longer, healthier lives. Do you agree or disagree? Feel free to voice your opinion!
