FC: THE SPINNING JENNY

2: Through Their Eyes | They saw possibility and opportunity in almost every new invention and innovation. | In the 1800's Innovative inventions were being created almost constantly and they were becoming an international super power.
3: In the 1800s, America was booming and growing fast. There were many new machines and technologies and bigger and taller buildings were being built. | Things were moving faster and faster as new technologies became necessities and old tools were thrown out.
4: The US was a fast-growing and innovative country at the time. | Through Their Eyes (Continued) | The Spinning Jenny was a helpful machine that made things out of thread much faster.
5: In The 1800's, needed to keep up in order to beat out the others.
6: Cause And Effect | James Hargreaves invented the Spinning Jenny in 1764. | His daughter, Jenny, knocked over their family spinning wheel and as the spindle rolled across the floor, James thought up the idea. | At the time, spinning thread took very long, so a machine invented to do this faster would be very useful.
7: In 1768, a group of spinners broke into Hargreaves' house and destroyed his machines for the fear that their work would be taken away from them. | In the end, though, the Spinning Jenny tremendously reduced labor.
8: Turning Points | It Spun 8 threads instead of Just 1. | The Spinning Jenny saved a lot of time and money.
9: It inspired the advent of the cotton mill | It was part of the Industrial Revolution which changed America
10: Change And Continuity | The Spinning Jenny has become a larger, more efficient machine today. | Even though the machine itself is not around, the machines inspired by it still spin thread.
11: Most clothing manufacturers have benefited from this invention | However, now today there are less paid weavers because these machines have taken over their work.
12: Using The Past | Today, many spinning machines are much like the Spinning Jenny, yet considerably different due to present-day technologies. | Machines like it are still used to spin thread and create things such as clothing.
13: Looking back at the Spinning Jenny, one could see that it was part of the Industrial Revolution which was a period where changes in manufacturing, mining, transportation, and technology had a profound effect on the social, economic and cultural conditions of the times.
