St. Louis - Page Text Content

S: St. Louis 2010

St. Louis, Missouri June 6-10, 2010 | Uniformed Safety Education Officers Workshop

An "arch" is mowed into the outfield at Cardinal Stadium. And I HAD to take a picture of the prices of a bottle of water at the concession stand; $5!

The majority of the fans around us had on some sort of clothing with the name Poujoul on it. Although I had no idea who this was, I soon found out he was the favored player of the Cardinals. He did not hit well in this particular game, but it was so fun to get to watch a major league super star in action!

The girls had so much fun on this vacation, but even after all of the fantastic things that we got to see, they always asked to go swimming first thing in the morning, last thing before bed and every spare minute in between. They truly are my little fish!

In the lobby of The Drury Hotel, where we were staying, there was a beautiful sculpture "exhibit" that included Lewis an d Clark, their slave York and their dog, Seaman, and Sacagawea . We had a little fun posing Ava for a picture getting a kiss from Seaman!

On the third day of our vacation, the moms and kids headed to the City Museum. This was a child's ultimate playground! There were tunnels in the ground and along the ceiling, "cages" around pillars to climb up and metal structures that were several stories high. It was nerve-racking at first to see my girls disappear into these things and not know where they would come out, but when they did surface they were smiling from ear to ear! Needless to say, getting them out of this place was not easy; they could have stayed all day! The pictures don't begin to show how much fun they had!

You cannot go to St. Louis without visiting the arch! I went with my family as a child and it was fun taking the girls! I was surprised at how much seemed familiar and how spectacular the view still is! The girls spotted two horse drawn carriages as soon as we looked out! I don't what was more exciting; the horses or the arch!

We took off from the hotel one day, headed to Macy's to do a little shopping, and we walked thru this beautiful pedestrian area that had the fountain on the opposite page. The water is red and comes out of the fountains pink! The girls couldn't resist getting in and the water didn't even stain them! We discovered the fountain above when we came back thru from Macy's. Ava was, not surprisingly, soaked when we finally left! I never could figure out the name of this area, but I recommend it to anyone that visits St. Louis!

The Fudgery is a fantastic place to buy goodies in Union Station. But, even more than just the fabulous handmade fudge, is the performance that you get to watch by people like Curtis who can sing like Louis Armstrong! | The FUDGERY

The Whispering Wall, also in Union Station, is an amazing structure that you whisper into and another person, across the room, can actually hear what you said!

Every year, regardless of where we go on vacation, we always have to visit the zoo...and this year was no exception. All six kids were so excited to see all of the different critters in the St. Louis Zoo, and we put on a lot of miles walking from corner to corner and end to end. Ava decided about a third of the way through that she wanted a picture of EVERY animal we saw; so I took them, had them printed and they are still in a folder in the basement, where they will probably stay until I throw them away when she moves out.

Ava and Nate let no adventure pass without trying it out. There were so many fun things to do as we went through the different sections of the zoo, and whatever Nate did, Ava followed close behind.

The girls get so annoyed with me when we are on vacation because I am constantly making them pose for photo ops; but I know there is going to be a time, in the very near future, when they blatantly refuse to have their pictures taken, let alone even go on the vacation with their boring parents, so I am taking advantage of these moments when they agree with "minimal" complaining.

Lions and Tigers and Bears....OH MY! and Zebra, and Orangutan, and Wallaby, and Giraffe, and Seal, and Cheetah, and Peacock, and........

 Having fun....
