5: Lake Amistad | Lake Amistad is a binational reservoir shared by the United States and Mexico. It is located on the Rio Grande along the border of both countries. Lake Amistad has outstanding water-based recreation. Lesson on the Lake is a floating classroom program offered at Lake Amistad. Students learn about the environment aboard a 67-foot floating classroom named Forever Earth. Lake Amistad is surrounded by landscape rich in prehistoric rock art. | Water

7: Baylor University | Universities | Baylor University was founded in 1845. It is a great private institution. The whole campus is an exact total of 508 acres. It has a total of 12,149 undergraduate enrollments. Baylor University is bound together by religion and service. Baylor University ranks 79th place in national universities.

9: The Chisos Mountains are considered the heart of Big Bend National Park. The mountains extend twenty miles from Punta de la Sierra in the southwest to Panther junction in the northeast. The Chisos Mountains are the only mountain range totally contained within a single national park. The Chisos Mountains have several peaks Emory Peak, Lost Mine Peak, Toll Mountain and Casa Grande Peak. The tallest peak is Emory peak 7, 835 feet above sea level. The mountains have a variety of vegetation that includes Douglas fir, Aspen, Arizona cypress, Maple,Ponderosa pine, and Madrone. The daytime highs in the summer rarely go above 90 degrees. | Chisos Mountains Landforms

11: Dallas Cities | In 1845 Dallas became a part of Texas. Dallas is now the 9th largest city in the United States and the 3rd largest city in Texas. It is home to 5 professional sports teams. Dallas is the home of the Cotton Bowl and the Texas State Fair. The 52 foot "Big Tex" statue that greets visitors at the fair is the tallest cowboy in the state of Texas. Around 26 million domestic visitors come to the city each year.

13: Edwards Aquifer | Water | The Edwards Aquifer is a unique groundwater system and is considered one of the greatest natural resources on Earth. It is an underground layer of porous, water-bearing rock and is between 300-700 feet thick. The San Antonio segment is where most of the major natural springs occur. In recent years, the demand for the water has been greater than what the Aquifer is able to provide. There are also increasing concerns about the welfare of endangered species that depend on the Aquifer.

15: Fort Davis | Historical Importance | Fort Davis is the best surviving example of Indian works. From 1854 to 1891 the fort was there to protect emigrants. Fort Davis was a big part of history in Southeast Texas. The altitude of the park is exactly 4,856 feet. The average temperatures of the park is 75 degrees. Fort Davis is located 400 miles away from San Antonio and exactly 200 miles away from Franklin Texas.

17: Goliad State Park | Historical Importance | Located by Goliad, Texas, the Goliad State Park is 188.3 acres. The park is located on the San Antonio River.The park contains a refurnished replica of Mission Nuestra Senora del Espiritu Santo de Zuniga. The mission was originally established in 1722 near Matagorda Bay.The mission was moved to is present site in 1749. The park also contains General Ignacio Zaragoza's birthplace.

19: Mountain Home | Landforms | Mountain Home is located in Kerr County. It is a beautiful mountain range when the sun sets. The mountain range has a lot of hiking trails. It is so much fun the kids will probably be sleeping in their cowboy hats. In the morning you can go fly fishing. It is a great place for some bonding time.

21: Inks Lake | Water | Inks Lake is a man-made lake created during the Great Depression of the 1930's. Inks lake is near Burnet,Texas. Inks Lake offers both cabin and vacation lodging. Inks Lake is the home of many fish including bass,crappie, and catfish. Also at Inks Lake is a great golf course named Highland Lakes Gold Club.

23: Lake Jackson Historical Museum | Historical Importance | Lake Jackson Historical Museum is located near The Gulf of Mexico and Houston. The Lake Jackson Historical Museum is 12,000 square feet. The museum chronicles the amazing history of the city with interactive exhibits and high-tech displays. The displays focus on four eras of history: the Prehistoric era, development of the area's petrochemical industry, the plantation era, and the founding of modern Lake Jackson.

25: Lake Kickapoo | Water | Lake Kickapoo is a 6200 acre lake located in Wichita Falls in Southern Archer Country. The lake was created in 1947. The lake is a great place to fish and it filled with many kinds of catfish and bass. Also at Lake Kickapoo, you can swim, boat, water ski, camp and picnic.

27: Llano | Cities | Llano, Texas was founded in 1855 and is located in Llano county along the Llano river. Most of the buildings in Llano have been redone but some are still standing since 1855. Llano is known for its deer hunting. When it's deer season everybody flows into Llano which is why it is called the "Deer Capital of Texas."

29: Santiago Mountains | Landforms | The Santiago Mountains are located in the south western part of Texas.The Santiago Mountains are a narrow range. They are less than one mile wide for much of its length, running from the northwest to the southeast for thirty-two miles from Del Norte Gap. The highest point on the Santiago Mountains is 6,524 feet above sea level.The mountains have stony soil and grow trees like oak, juniper and some mesquite.

31: New Braunfels | Cities | New Braunfels is located between Austin and San Antonio. The city was founded in1845 under German charter. New Braunfels is know for its amazing water park Schlitterbahn. The Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels is the biggest park of the three ldifferent locations in Texas. For years, it has been voted the number one water park in America. Hopefully you will be able to visit New Braunfels and Schlitterbahn in the future.

33: Oil Ranch | Recreation | Oil Ranch is located in Houston Texas. It has many activities including pony rides, hayrides, petting zoo, picnicking and swimming. The amazing swimming pool is a great activity to do in the summer at Oil Ranch. You can also hop on the OIL train for a tour of the park. The ranch is dedicated to preserving Texas Heritage.

35: Prairie Mountain | Landforms | Prairie Mountain is located southwest of Llano. In the early twentieth century Prairie Mountain was also known as Starks, Hickory, and Putnam. When a rural school was built on Roundtree Ranch in 1906, the people took its name from the nearby Prairie Mountain. A stone ranch house and a barn are now considered landmarks. As of 1990, Prairie Mountain was still listed as a community.

37: Quintana Beach County Park | Recreation | Quintana Beach County Park is located in the upper part of the Gulf Coast in Texas. It is a 51 acre ranch. It is a nice place for lodging. It has nice wooden cabins with restrooms and showers. The park also has paved full-service RV campsites. While there, you can play on the volleyball court, go fishing, bird watching, shelling, swimming and even surfing.

39: Round Rock | Cities | Round Rock is located in Travis and Williamson Counties. Money Magazine believes that Round Rock is the 7th best city to live in Texas. It is named after rock formation. Around the rock you can find wagon tracks from the first settlers that visited the town. The tracks were discovered when the creek dried up and turned into rock. The Dell Diamond, home of the Triple A team the Round Rock Express is located here. Round Rock is a great place to visit on a family trip.

41: Texas State University | Universities | Texas State University's main campus is located in San Marcos. Texas State's student population has grown from 303 in 1903 to 32,572 in 2010. Originally known as Southwest Texas State Normal School, it opened in 1903. There have been many name changes from Normal College, Teachers College, College, Southwest State University and the most modern name is Texas State University-San Marcos.

43: Texas A&M | Universities | Texas A&M is located in College Station, which is 90 miles northwest of Houston. Texas A&M's current population is over 49,000 people and physically 5,200 acres. It is also one of the biggest universities in the nation. Texas A&M's mascots name is Reveille the Dog. Since the beginning of the Big Twelve Conference they have won 46 big twelve titles in various women's and men's sports.

45: The University Of Texas | Universities | The University of Texas at Austin is located in the capital city of Austin. The campus library is the fifth largest academic library in the nation. The University has great art and historic museums. Their football team, the Longhorns, play at DKR Memorial Stadium. Their mascot is a longhorn named Bevo and the school colors are burnt orange and white.

47: Veterans Memorial Museum | Historical importance | This museum is located on 6002 George Bush Drive, Katy, Texas. It is a first-class military exhibit. The museum has historical knowledge from every foreign conflict that involved the United States. If you go to the museum you can arrange a tour with a private group. Admission is free but contributions are welcome. Memberships are also available.

49: Wagon Wheel Ranch | Recreation | Wagon Wheel Ranch is located in Grapevine, Texas. The ranch is primarily used for horse shows. People come from all around Texas to see these horses perform. They have been voted in the top 10 horse facilities in Texas. Trail rides and riding lessons are offered all year. They also sell Angus beef so bring your cooler to take some home with you!

51: Xit Ranch | Recreation | Xit Ranch was the largest range in the world in the 1880's. It was an irregular strip of land that was roughly 30 miles wide and is located in what we now know as Lubbock Texas. It all laid in the Texas Panhandle. Measuring around 3 million acres, it was the largest fenced in land area existing at that time. It covered portions of 10 different counties.

53: Cities | Yorktown | Yorktown is located in southeast Texas. Yorktown got its name from Captain John York. It was founded in 1848 on the Coleto Creek and is one of the oldest communities in DeWitt county. Renee Hernandez is the mayor of the city of Yorktown. The city is 168 years old this year.

55: Dallas Zoo | Recreation | The Dallas Zoo was founded in 1888 and is located in the city of Dallas. It was first zoological park in the Southwest. At over 106 acres, it is also the largest zoo in Texas. The Dallas Zoo has a very impressive collection of animals and many family fun activities. You will learn about wildlife and how to protect endangered species. A really cool thing is that kids three and under get in for free! So when you go to Dallas, make sure you visit The Dallas Zoo.
