1: Doug, We know the past 13 weeks have been the most challenging time of your life. But we also know how much you have wanted to be a Marine through the wonderful letters you have given us during boot camp. In compiling the photos for this book, we were so surprised by all the 'army' photos of you that we have collected over the years. It brought back wonderful memories of army outfits, GI Joes, Army/Navy Surplus runs, camouflage robe, green army 'guys,' summer war movies, weapons, paintball... you have been preparing for this for a long time. So it should not have come as a surprise when you chose a career in the Marines. We will miss you but we completely understand and accept the life you have chosen. Congratulations on becoming a Marine! You make us very proud. Mom and Dad November 2011
2: Hey Doug, Congratulations on finally becoming a Marine! You worked really hard to get to this point and I know it wasn't easy. I am very proud of you and how far you've come. Maybe you'll let me borrow your uniform some time! Love, Eric
3: Congratulations Doug! This is your destiny: as a Marine, you are now sworn to defend the U.S. Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I can't think of a more noble pursuit than that. You should be very proud. Good luck with everything to come. Semper Fi. Love, Phil
