FC: Thucydides: The True Father of History | 2011

“You never find yourself until you face the truth”- Pearl Bailey

Many consider me as one of the founding fathers of Western history because of my accounts of the Peloponnesian Wars.

Although many acknowledge that Herodotus is the "Father of History," he is also the "Father of Lies" because he reported many exaggerated, false facts that were biased in his The Histories.

I believe that in order to be respected as an intellectual in society, one has to be truthful and because of that, I have gone on a quest to make everything I do the purest and unbiased.

Unlike Herodotus's, the work I do is truthful and looks at all perspectives, despite me being from Athens, which I dearly love.

Despite being a lover of my fair city of Athens, many, especially Herodotus fans, question it since I provided unbiased accounts of the Peloponnesian Wars, which involved Athens and Sparta.

Finding the truth has led to me to scoff at the work of Herodotus due to the fact that his work is not what an intellectual would do but what a story writer would do. His The Histories are a good fable to read to small children.

Having an unbiased judgment is important because nothing is able to influence one to sway to a side of something. Being unbiased is the truest way to make a decision, thus making it one part of the truth. Therefore, it is better to have a more imperialistic government with a good leader since there is only on person in charge and that one person could use their own mind to decide on things. Democracies on the otherhand are full of problems, especially on judgments since someone could influence everyone to vote for the same thing, making no one able to vote for what they want to. However, I still respect the work of Pericles in providing Athens with a relatively good form of government.

Though highly regarded, Herodotus did not fulfill his obligation as an intellectual as providing truthful and unbiased information. The quest for the truth can only be answered once one has eliminated all bias in life.
