3: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929. He was a well known civil rights leader of the 1960's. He was most recognized for his powerful speeches. One of his most popular speeches is "I Have Dream". He was assassinated on April 4, 1968. seattletimes.nwsource.com

5: Yuri Gagarin was born on March 9, 1934. He was the first human-being to go in space on April 12, 1961. He circled around Earth once, before he returned back into Earth's atmosphere. 7: The Beatles were a rock band. They first became famous in Britain. The Beatles started the British Invasion of the 1960's. The band included John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. They released 12 albums in the U.K. and 20 albums in the U.S.A. The band split in 1970. thedadada.com

9: Neil Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930. He was the first human to set foot on the moon on July 20, 1969. And as he did he stated "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind". He spent 22 hours on the moon. Neil Armstrong is still alive. rhetoric-artofpersuasion.com

11: Muhammad Ali was born on January 17, 1942.He was originally named Cassius Clay, but he changed his name for religious reasons in 1964. He is considered the greatest boxer of all time. Muhammad Ali liked to say that he could float like a butterfly, and sting like a bee. He won fifty-six of his sixty-one fights. He won the heavyweight championship three times. 13: In August of 1969 half a million people gathered in rural New York. They were attending the Woodstock Music and Art Fair. It featured many famous singers and bands. Woodstock was known as three days of peace and music. home.millsaps.edu

15: Hippie culture arose in the 1960's.They were young people who rejected society.They were against war.Hippies liked to listen to music and use illegal drugs. And believed that love and peace were the answers to the world's problems. They dressed in colorful clothing and wore their hair long. Most hippies did not have jobs. 17: The Vietnam War started in 1954. America didn't join until 1965. Vietnam wanted to become a communist nation. But American officials didn't want that to happen. America was drawn into Vietnam's civil war. And they had taken a lead role in the fighting. Over half a million Americans were fighting in the war by 1969. The war ended in 1975. english-online.at

19: The Rat Pack was a group of singers, actors, and comedians who were close friends. They were talented performers who dazzled the nation in the 1960's.The Rat Pack included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop.
