FC: The Blindside: Archetype Heroic Cycle | By Nathan Lay
1: Synopsis | The movie The Blindside is about a journey of a young man, from poverty to the NFL. He started out in a lesser part of town, and ended up at a high academic Christian school. Being homeless, he had no where to go until Mrs. Tuohy took him into her home. Her and her family guided him to success, and helped him overcome his fear of losing loved ones. After being taken in, his confidence is boosted and he discovers his talent at Football. His past haunts him throughout the movie, and sometimes it is hard for him to overcome and open up to others. He learns the idea of "family" and comes to love his new family, as they love him back. In the end, he is rewarded with a scholarship to Ole Miss, and is drafted into the NFL.
2: The Hero | Michael Oher is the Hero in the Blindside. His mother is a drug addict, who constantly lost her children to the state. He is taken in by the Tuohy Family, and becomes a Football star. He overcomes many hardships, and is often affected by his past and where he grew up. His story is remarkable because in the end he is drafted to the NFL.
3: The Mentor | Mrs Tuohy is the Mentor in the story. She brings Michael into her home, and take cares of him as a if she were his mother. She stands by him throughout his hardships. She makes sure he has the best support in all the opportunities he is given.
4: Threshold Guardian | S.J is the Threshold Guardian in the Blindside. He is the younger brother of Michael, and is always pushing him. He helps train Michael for football and films his practices to let him know what he needs to work on. Michael and him develop a strong relationship, and this helps teach Michael friendship. Michael would do anything for S.J, and in a car accident Michael stopped an airbag from hitting S.J. This was an obstacle at Michael had to overcome to protect his new family, just as they protect him.
5: The coach | The Shapeshifter | The coach is the Shapeshifter in the movie. He is the reason that Michael Oher gets into the Christian school, but isn't as patient with Michael as he needed to be on the field. He is supportive of him when he is doing good, but when he isn't, the coach is very negative. The coach helps colleges get the attention of Michael by them scouting.
6: The Shadow | The Shadow of the story is Michael's mom, but more broad, his past. His mom never had the capability to take care of him, and he had to most times take care of her. Whenever the state took him, he'd find a way back to her. His past and his mom haunt him throughout the movie, and are the reason for his social issues. He is scared to commit to anyone because he fears losing them.
