9: Jonas is an eleven going on to the ceremony of twelve in December. When Jonas arrives at the ceremony, he is selected for The Receiver of Memories. Jonas is scared of his assignment because he is told there is physical pain involved. Jonas learns that Gabriel, the infant that his father is taking care of,is going to be released. Jonas discussed his feelings with The Giver and came up with a plan. Jonas takes Gabriel and goes on a bike ride out of the community. When he leaves it forces the community to relive their past. He traveled for a while with Gabriel who was dying due to starvation and cold weather. They reach a hill where snow and a sled are found.
11: I did not like this book. There is no such thing as perfect. For example, when they were talking about releasing newborns if they don't grow fast enough. Not everyone is going to grow as fast as others. The rules about what your age group can wear and the things they can do is wrong because they are kids and they need to have fun while they can. The book ''The Giver'' reminds me of what most people want. Perfection is something that everyone strives for. Does perfection really exist? No one knows but is perfection is what Lois Lowry describes it as would anyone really want perfection?
