S: The HUnger Games Author: Suzane Collins
BC: Critique Page | I liked a lot of things about The Hunger Games especially how the author wrote the book and how she left the end of the chapters as cliffhangers which made me want to keep reading. A few things I didn't like about this book is the names of the people because I don't know how to pronounce some of the names. Also, that a 12 year old can be in the games. Another thing is that in some of the districts they have career tributes. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys action filled books with a little romance and great characters for a book.

Setting | My book has three main settings and they are District 12, the Capitol, and the Hunger Games Arena. District 12 is a really poor community that has a lot of woods and it is the lowest district in 12 districts. The Capitol is a place filled with fake stuff, crazy people, colorful, and extremely rich. The Arena is a huge place, is filled with woods, and is where the competitors stay and sleep until the games are done.
Characters | There are many characters in my book and the antagonist in my book is Cato. Cato is from District 1 who is a career tribute. A career tribute is someone who has been trained their whole life for the Hunger Games. Cato is a strong, buff, and a smart competitor. The protagonist is Katniss Everdeen. Katniss Everdeen is from District 12 who is smart, kind of strong, kind, and is a really good hunter. Katniss took care of her family after her dad died in a mine accident and her mom went into shock. Kantniss' sister who is 12 got picked for the Hunger Games so Katniss volunteered herself for her sister. A few other characters are Peeta Mellark. Peeta is also from District 12 and he got picked for the Hunger Games, too. Peeta is a baker's son who is strong, brave, and is kind. Another character is Gale. Gale and Katniss are best friends. Gale is 18 while Peeta and Katniss are 16. Gale is strong, a great hunter, and likes Katniss. Gale is also brave and nice.
Problem | The main problem is Katniss volunteers for the Hunger Games after her 12 year old sister, Prim, gets picked for the Hunger Games and Katniss promised her sister she would win. A smaller problem in the story is Katniss can't find any water after running away from all the other competitors. Another small problem is Peeta joined alliances with the career tributes and they wamt to kill him.
Plot | The Hunger Games is about a young girl, Katniss Everdeen, and a boy, Peeta Mellark, who are both the competitors from Distrcit 12 in the Hunger Games. In the Hunger Games there are 24 competitors. There are 2 competitors from each district, one boy and one girl, and there are 12 districts. The districts have the Hunger Games to remind themselves of the dark days when there were 13 districts. Along the way in the games the mayor makes an announcement saying that the 2 competitors from the same district can both win instead of just 1 person winning. Katniss found Peeta sick and almost dead so she went to the picnic where you can get the one thing that you need. At the picnic Glimmer was laying on top of her holding a knife with no one around to save her, that she could see.
My Favorite Part | My favorite part was when Katniss and Rue, an 11 year old from District 11, became alliances. I liked this part the best because I thought it was nice of Katniss because no one wanted to become alliances with an 11 year old. Also, Rue and Katniss both shared what they had and protected each other from anything. Lastly,Rue and Katniss made a plan to destroy the career tributes food.
Text-Text Connection | The text to text connection that I have is The Hunger Games with The Tale of Despereaux. I had a connection from this because in both of the stories people were fighting for things they want and to help the people they love.
Text-Self Connection | A connection I have with The Hunger Games is with Prim because we are both 12 and have an older sister. Also, I have a connection with Katniss because we would both do anything for our family and we both will help people.
Text- World Connection | A connection that The Hunger Games reminds me of with the world is that in the news I hear of people killing each other and in The Hunger Games the competitors have no choice but to kill each other to win.
