S: The Rays 2008
FC: The Many Adventures of the Rays 2008
The year started off with a visit from Tyler and Tiffany. Lauren just HAD to have a party upon their arrival. We invited Michael, Bekah and Brynley too.
On the first full day we took them to Multnomah Falls. It was really roaring this day and we got sprayed by lots of mist.
One day we drove to the coast. It was a beautiful drive through the snowy pass. We went to the Tillamook Cheese Factory before heading to the beach. Gotta love sampling cheese and ice cream.
Other then the small tornado that touched down the day Tyler and Tiffany flew out, not much happened during the winter. Just lots of cold and rain. Lauren did get a new hair-do which she LOVES.
 The Easter Bunny Came
The kids are looking great for Easter Sunday. Not long after, came Kenny's 8th Birthday. Memorable parts were him wanting a cheesecake for his cake and his inviting Matt over for dinner and a movie. Kenny was really excited to receive a bike just right for his size.
This was our first winter in Washington and we were starting to wonder if we would ever see the sun again. | One Day in April the sun peeked out from the clouds. I quickly grabbed the camera to take pictures of the event.
Another sunny day we made a musical xylophone of sorts for preschool.
Lauren got a snow ball in the face. | Icicles in the parking lot.
We decided to embrace the cold and drove up to Mt. Hood on April 19th. We couldn't stay long with the blizzard moving in. The picture on the right is of Kenny leaning against the wind.
 Kenny's first Pinewood Derby
Though Kenny's car wasn't the fastest, fun was had by all. The girls enjoyed the run set up for the younger siblings.
We flew down to Arizona for Mother's Day weekend so Kenny could get baptized with lots of family around. Among tons of visiting we also went to a splash pad, had an adult night of ping pong and guitar hero, volleyball in Goodyear, a baptism and baby blessing, and a birthday dinner. It was a vacation jam packed with fun.
Baptism and Blessing Day Kenny was baptized with Jacob and 9 other kids. Kenny was last and a little worried the water would be cold by the time his turn came along...it was warm. Clara also received her baby's blessing since tons of family were already there.
Grandma came for a visit to help Aunt Bekah with her pregnancy with Aevyn. We were able to steal her away one Saturday and went to Seaside and Astoria. Oh how Grandma loves the ocean!
While in Seaside we went to a really small Seaside Aquarium. We were not expecting much from what we saw on the outside but it was really fun. We got to feed the seals pieces of fish. We could not only touch but pick up some of the creatures like: hermit crabs, barnacles, starfish, clams, and oysters. They had an octopus in an area like the starfish tank where you could look at the octopus down through the water. This octopus swam all over the place and even stuck his tentacles out of the water. A couple of times he poked his head out too. | Explore!
We decided to tag along with Mark one weekend as he had to visit one of his buildings in Medford, Oregon which is 20 minutes north of California. Medford is a BEAUTIFUL 5 hr drive from our home. | One of the days we were there we went to a family fun park which is like Golfland without the water park. We played lots of games, played in the playground and Kenny drove a go-kart.
We then went to a children's museum. This place was a place of learning and trying out different skills. Mark parked himself at the puzzle center and figured out ALL of the puzzles while the kids and I played.
Of course our favorite part in joining Mark on his business trips is swimming at the hotel.
We drove home on a Sunday. On our way home we took breaks from the drive and explored the beautiful creeks and parks along the way.
It finally started warming up in June. When it reached into the 70's the kids thought it was toasty and just had to have a water gun fight.!
They had a Luau (family invited) for Kenny's last day of school. Carley did not want to leave my side but then decided to hang out in the coat closet. She is sooo shy. Kenny took Lauren by the hand to show her off and then got her some food. What a sweet big brother. Carley finally warmed up once we headed outside for bubble fun.
The Barney's invited us over for July4th. | The neighborhood also put on an ice cream social before the fireworks. | The kids really enjoyed all the fun to be had in the backyard.
Carley was NOT a fan of the fireworks. The rest of us loved them and were in awe with what you are allowed to shoot off!
For our 13th Wedding Anniversary we went to the Japanese Garden and the Rose Garden in Portland. | It was so beautiful and relaxing.
We noticed this REALLY big playground at the Rose Garden so a couple of weeks later we took the kids.
By the Rose Garden was a stage and hill that the kids explored with much enthusiasm!
Grandpa and Grandma came for a visit in August. One of the first things we did was | have and adult only dinner at Oba's.
We also took Grandpa and Grandma on the usual tourist trip of Multnomah Falls and the Fish Hatchery.
We took Grandma and Grandpa to the Portland zoo.! We learned that Carley just might be a bear with all her grunts, growls and groans.
Our favorite part of the zoo was the train ride. | Carley wouldn't let go of Grandma...that is until we went through a tunnel and got hit by the train's smoke.
We took a mini vacation during Grandpa and Grandma's vacation. We drove to the coast and spent a few days at Seaside. We played at the beach, went shopping and visited the small aquarium. We stayed at a beach house which backed up to a golf course. Out the front door was the beach. It was a perfect place with beautiful surroundings.
 AT THE BEACH
While in Seaside, we went to the small Seaside Aquarium | On our way home we drove up to Astoria. We went to the Coast Guard Museum where the kids enjoyed trying things out and going into a boat to check out the living quarters. We learned quite a bit about the dangers of fishing where the ocean meets the Columbia River.
 The Columbia River Maritime Museum
We took Grandma and Grandpa to our favorite park to do our favorite things; skipping rocks, playing Frisbee, going on walks and playing on the playground. | Lewisville Park
On the last night of Grandpa and Grandma's visit we celebrated | Carley's birthday since they were going to miss it by a few weeks.
We were sad to see Grandpa and Grandma go but we couldn't be sad for long with school starting. With Carley being so shy we were worried for her to start Kindergarten. When we were waiting outside for her teacher, she clung to my leg when anyone approached. When it was time to go in she went right in and found her desk and started on the paper that was there. She wouldn't talk to anyone including her teacher. But she had no problem with me leaving which was a big relief. Upon picking her up she immediately told me how much she loved her teacher and that she couldn't wait to go back the next day. Lauren started preschool a couple of days later.
 Carley Turns 6
Taking a time-out to talk about time-outs. This is what we found within days of each other... | How can we stay mad at Lauren when she is doing this. After cracking up when I found her doing this I made her pose for the camera. | I guess we found out why Carley was acting up...she was just too tired.
 Let the pumpkin carving begin.
I was in charge of the ward Halloween party this year so I was a little too busy to take pictures. We did manage to get a few. We've got Belle and Jango Fett making a reappearance. Lauren picked Dorothy and I think she makes quite a good one.
Our walk one afternoon to pick up Kenny and Carley from school started out innocent enough. Sure it was raining...well, I would really call it a drizzle. The drizzle was coming down straight so no problem, just like any other day. We got to school just fine but once we had all the kids and were returning home, the drizzle turned into full on rain and it started blowing so hard we could no longer use the umbrellas. This is what we looked like when we came home. Notice Lauren's hair is half blown over her hood. she couldn't understand why we were laughing until she saw the picture for herself.
 A Kindergarten Thanksgiving Feast
It was just our small clan of 5 for Thanksgiving this year. We ate the basics and a pumpkin pie. Mark surprised us with some entertainment by getting us a Wii. He pulled it out from it's hiding spot and hooked it up to the projector. We sure had fun with it and in evidence we were all completely sore the next day.
Lauren turns 5 Lauren chose Red Robbin for her birthday dinner. She really dug into and enjoyed her birthday sundae.
It started snowing on Lauren's birthday and continued to snow for 8 days. We broke all kinds of records. It usually doesn't snow in the city so this was definitely out of the ordinary. | The kids and I really enjoyed the snow but it caused quite a mess for Mark at work. They never plowed the neighborhood streets so it made getting around hard.
We were supposed to fly to Arizona on Christmas day but ended up flying 2 days later. Because our trip was our Christmas to each other, there weren't many presents to open...just what Santa brought and a few gifts we received in the mail.
