FC: The Shell Written By:Danielle R. Baran
Once upon a time there was a girl named Chloe. Chloe lived with her mom in Topeka, Kansas. Chloe loved to swim, however she never swam in the ocean before, being from Kansas. One day her friend Caroline invited her to go to the beach for a vacation. Chloe was so excited! She ran to her mom and asked if she could go. he mom said sure, but you are not allowed in or near the water. Chloe was so confused. "Why not, mommy?" Her mom replied "Because I said so." Chloe called Caroline and said that she was allowed to go.
The following day Chloe and Caroline packed up the car and headed off to Ocean City New Jersey. When they got there they unpacked everything and Caroline suggested they go for a walk on the beach. Chloe, knowing that she wasn't allowed to go near the water was slightly resentful at first; however after some convincing from Caroline she changed her mind. "it won't hurt."
Once they were on the beach Caroline ran right towards the water. Chloe sauntered after her and then she lost Caroline in a crowd of people. "Caroline? Caroline? Where are you?" With no luck finding Caroline, Chloe walked along the beach towards their cottage. As she was walking she stumbled upon a shell sticking out of the sand. It was a very beautiful shell. She picked it up and all of a sudden the ground fell through ans she disappeared into the dark, black pit.
When she got to the bottom she landed with a thud. She looked around and she saw a huge, gold castle with mermaids and mermen swimming all around. One mermaid swam up to her and introduced herself as Lydia. The mermaid then explained to Chloe that she was her mother and that when Chloe was born there was a terrible war going on under the sea, so in order to save her she took her to land and left her in a nest made of seashells. "Wait! If you are a mermaid...That means I am a mermaid too!" "Precisely", responded her mother. "Wow!How is it possible that on land I have legs but here I have a tail?" he mother making a gesture at the shell in Chloe's hands said; this is magical and gives you the power on land to be human and in the ocean water to be mermaid.
"This is amazing! I can't wait to go home and tell my other mom about my mermaid mom! I can't wait to tell Caroline! Wait where is Caroline? Oh yeah. I was looking for her before I ended up here. How can I get back?" Lydia told her that she could come and go between both worlds as much as she wished as long as she kept the shell, however she was not allowed to tell anyone that she was a mermaid. Slightly disappointed she promised not to tell anyone. With that she closed her eyes and then woke up on the beach covered in seaweed. Caroline ran over to her. "Where have you been? I've been worried sick!" "I've been lost in my imagination she said. Let's go home I had this amazing dream I have to write down!" "you mean You were asleep the entire time!", exclaimed Caroline. "Yes, asleep and dreaming."
I guess the moral of the story boils down to the fact that having an imagination is the greatest thing that you can possess. For Chloe, she has a vivid and active imagination. She is creative and adventurous. She allows her imagination to take her places where in reality she wouldn't ever be able to go. Chloe is a lot like me. I believe that imagination is one of the most important things that a person can have. One day you may be slaying dragons and the next day you may be flying with unicorns. Imagination is what gets you places. As Albert Einstein said, "Logic will get you from A to B, imagination will take you everywhere."
