45: Dear Mum & Dad, I thank God for having you as parents. You have taught me to be creative & adventurous. One of the great things I value is the confidence and the competence to have a go; I’ll never know what I can do unless I try. Being able to think outside the square has resulted in me making some quite radical decisions, such as using homeopathy and home educating our children. While both of these decisions seemed risky, I was able to trust my judgement and give it a go. Dad, I think I inherited your stubbornness. The Bible never talks about stubbornness, but it does say that perseverance is something to be persevered in. I think that means it’s a good thing. I notice I also like to ride bikes absurdly long distances, and swim. And of course, I credit you with my quite remarkable style of butterflounder. I proudly tell people I learnt it all from my Dad. Mum, from you I inherited good life skills, although housework tends to take second place to all the other more interesting things in life. I also grew an interest in crosswords, puzzles, sewing and other handcrafts. I’ve even learnt to do cryptics, although not the hard ones. Thankyou, too, for persevering in taking me to church, Sunday School, youth group, and for giving me the foundation from which I could accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour, and embark on my life’s journey with Him. May God bless you both, Diana
