1: DOU was honored with the Every Day Heroes Award for the So. Cal Kaiser Permanente Region. We had a regional award presentation and dinner in Pasadena | My Reward and Recognition committee organized an "exceptional Employee Day . We had great food and mini presentations for those recognized. ( Herbal teas, spa lotions, yoga, Zumba, and stress reduction.

36: These are the plaques on most of Whitney's trophies for soccer, basketball and softball before they went goodbye to the landfill forever after she got married. We will never get rid of our hall of fame in the house.

39: Mother's day We took Mom to Souplantation and she fell on the way in hitting her head, wrist and hip hard on the concrete. With blood trinkling down the side of her head and a swollen wrist, she insisted we eat lunch before we headed to the ER. | Kim and Megan came up from San Diego for the day's festivities. | As long as we are talking ailments, Lisa had a repair of left knee torn meniscus in April. This is the swollen knee a week post op.
40: Brandon and Taylor | Brandon home on his week break between summer classes in Arizona. We took in a Friday night fireworks Dodger game.
41: It started with breakfast at Summerland Beach Cafe, sleeping on Santa Barbara Beach, then on to great seats at the well won Dodger game , and home to chocolate cake and ice cream | June 20 | Mark's 56th birthday celebration was Mark's perfect day (minus the tar on the foot).

48: turtle pond at UA | Mark and Lisa went over to Tucson for the day to help Brandon pack up his belongings to move from his apt to a house which wasn't available until the next day. When we got home at 8PM Brandon called to say the apt was kicking him out to the street and wouldn't let him stay the night. We had words with them and they finally agreed to let him stay until 8am when he was going to have a truck come and help him move. Well the truck never showed up and poor Brandon had to stuff 30 boxes in his Toyota and move all by himself. | We ate at Mi Nandito and sat at the table that President Bill Clinton had sat at and we ordered the Presidential plate which is what he ate. Pretty good! but in a not so great area of town to have to have armed security outside protecting patrons | Tucson airport | El Guerro Canelo- the owner is the cinammon blonde in the blue shirt. they are famous for their sonoran hot dogs
49: Mark and Lisa flew to Ut to help Whitney and Kent drive from Provo to Tucson. We stopped at Sedona to enjoy the view. Then Whitney's car overheated and broke down and had to be towed in Phoenix. It was bloody hot, but we survived. Whitney's apt is great. The next day Mark and Lisa drove back to Phoenix to pick up the car and encountered heavy traffic. If there's an accident there is only one road to get to and from Phoenix so the traffic has to stop.

54: Rah! Rah! We were cheering Kent on as he pushed the submit button on his Podiatry School Application. Rah! Rah! | He applied to 3 schools and found out that he got in to all three, but he decided to go to Midwestern in Glendale, Az. He starts in August 2012.
55: We went to the Magic Castle. Amazing. They stole Mark's watch off his wrist in front of a crown without him knowing it | We arrived early to get autographs. Kent had a rookie catcher sign his baseball.

65: Helen made us breakfast every morning and served it at the corner table in our suite. | This is the first course. I got so busy eating I gobbled it all up before taking pics of the main course. | This is one long beautiful patio.

77: Our Room | The young family that lives here has a garden with apples and vegetables that we could use. And eggs, but I never did get those. | They also have chickens and a noisy rooster | Mark feeding apples to the pony. | Garden | Farm animals
78: This place has a great vege and fruit garden, all kinds of apples, but it also had a zip line, big trampoline, treehouse, hammock and a row boat. What a place! | Weighted gate automatically closes after you to keep the deer and other critters out.

82: Leaving the San Juan Islands and ferrying back to Anacortes and then we drove down Whidbey Island across Deception pass and on to Seattle. | Mark, of course, had researched the best burger in Seattle. We had to decide for ourselves. It was good, but ,"The Counter", back home still reins supreme in our eyes and stomachs.
83: Steven Paul Born December 4, 1951- October 21, 2011 Steve peacefully passed away at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center. Steve was born in Wood River, Illinois to the late Betty and Paul Born. His family moved from St. Louis to Granada Hills, CA in 1962. He graduated from Granada Hills HS in 1970 where he was active in the Choir and Performing Arts. He was in barbershop quartet competitions for many years. He graduated from CSUN in 1976 with a B.A. in Cell and Molecular Biology. He continued his education with Graduate work in plant disease at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1979, followed by work in wheat diseases at Oregon State University 1979-1985. He received his Physical Science and Biology teaching credential from CSUN in 1987. He taught Biology and Physics at San Fernando HS, Verdugo Hills HS, and Monroe HS, 1987 to 2009. Steve was an avid reader and had a love for science, history, and politics which followed him throughout his life. His love of history led him to Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus, where he served as Noble Grand Humbug of the Peter LeBeck Chapter, furthering the Chapter's work of preserving Western History. He was also a Member of the Los Angeles Corral of Westerners International, and the Autry National Center (formerly the Autry Museum of Western Heritage). Steve had a deep interest in Family History and often traveled in search of his roots and interviewed family to obtain this information. He is survived by his wife Joanne Marcroft Williamson, whom he married on October 14, 2009 and her son, Alex. He leaves a brother, Mark, and Mark's children, Whitney and Brandon, and a sister, Jodi, and her children, Rachel, John and the late Taylor. He loved his family and nieces and nephews and cousins. Steve maintained a close relationship with lifelong friends who were an incredible support throughout his life and recent illness. Steve will remain in our hearts and memories and be loved always and forever. Funeral services will be held Saturday October 29th at 10:00 a.m. at Oakwood Memorial Park, Chatsworth.
84: After Steve's memorial service at Oakwood Memorial Park,we walked over to see Paul and Betty's (mom and dad) headstones. Steve's ashes will be buried nearby.
85: The reception after the service was at Steve's house which is the Born family home. Jodi, Kent, Whitney, Taylor, Brandon, Lisa, Mark. And Robin (cousin) | This is the original swingset that Mark, Jodi, Brandon, and Whitney used growing up. | Jodi came out from PA, Kent, Whit and Brandon from Tucson, and Robin from Chicago.

88: Jodi and Lisa went to Santa Barbara to give Jodi a beach fix. She doesn't see much ocean in PA
89: After 30 years working in Kaiser Permanente Hospital Lisa finally decides to transfer to the Allergy clinic. | Barb and Lisa go to the Ventura County Harvest Festival every year. | I had a nice going away potluck.
