FC: Thomas Jefferson | by Bailey Bradford

Early Years- Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743 on the family farm in Goochland County, Virginia. He was the third child in his family, and grew up with six sisters and one brother. When he was 14, his father died.At age 9, he lived with a Scottish clergyman for his tutoring. At age 16, he entered in the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg. After his education, he settled in Monticello, Virginia. | Monticello, Virginia

Memorable Accomplishments- -He was a signatory of the Declaration of Independence -He was Governor of Virginia in two one-year terms in 1779 and 1780 -He was Minister to France, beginning 1785 -Jefferson was voted president in 1801-1806 -He came up with the idea of the Louisiana Purchase that was approved in 1803 and cost a then gargantuan 2 million.

I think he made a difference in history because he encouraged people to stand up for liberty and to do what is right. He served Washington in the Revloutionary War and held many ideals that would turn into the birth of our country and our Consitution. Serving as minister to France he helped the French people gain liberty, and strengthened relationships with France. Today, we probably would have no Bill of Rights if Jefferson had not objected to the abscence of a bill of rights in the writing of the Constitution and helped introduced the ten amendments that would eventually become the Bill of Rights. | How did he make a difference in history?

All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent. -Thomas Jefferson | Did you know that in 2007, Thomas Jefferson was featured in a coin in a series made to honor our presidents?
