3: My name is Katherine Delta and I have gone to Freedom Hill since kindergarten. I remember soon into my first grade year we got a new principal with a long beard who loved to run. He was very kind and always made us feel welcomed and a part of the Freedom Hill Family. Mr. Stanley taught us that everyone can succeed. He made us feel confident in what we do and realize that we should never give up. According to Mr. Stanley, life is not sprint, it’s a marathon. Or maybe 50 miles. And we need to make sure each of those miles count, from the beginning to the end. If we don’t give up, we will meet our goals. We will treat those around us with respect. We will try our hardest and keep going to conquer challenges, even when we want to stop. We all can reach the finish line, and we can all be winners. Mr. Stanley, we have chosen a song to honor you and your outstanding leadership and guidance. The lyrics from this traditional African American Spiritual are “Guide my feet, while I run this race, for I don’t want to run this race in vain.” Thank you for teaching us to never give up and to live our lives with meaning and passion. As you cross the finish line in your career as a teacher and principal, we are here cheering for you as you have always cheered for us. We will never forget you and how you inspire and motivate us as we lace up our shoes for each new journey. -Katherine Delta, Freedom Hill SCA President 2011-2012
