“Bye Mom, Bye Alice!” Dad, Brianna and I said as Mom and my sister boarded the train. They were going to the hospital in the city. I felt a cool breeze as the train rumbled on. I started to run after it, but my father caught my hand and said “Don't even think about it.” | Chapter 1 Goodbye | 4

As we stepped out of the train station, I thought about my sister and mother in the hospital. “Your daughter has Leukemia, “I saw Mom gasp “She will need to go to the bigger hospitals in the city because we cannot treat diseases like this.” I heard the doctor say. Mom walked out of the room, her face all white, a few tears clung unto her face, she looked frightened. She stopped to talk to Dad and we walked out of the hospital. | 5

When we got home, I inquired Dad “What’s Leukemia?” “Cancer of the blood.” he replied. I gasped, ran to by head buried my head into my pillow and started to cry. | 6

The next morning, Brianna and I woke up at 6:00 for school. While we ate breakfast, nobody said a word. Brianna slurped up her milk and spilled some on the floor. And I we said our goodbyes and walked to school, thinking about our mother and sister. | Chapter 2 Why, Oh Why | 7

When we got home from school, Dad kept nagging us to do the house chores that mother would do if she was here. All Dad did was smoke on his pipe. Also, when we finished our homework, instead of playing video games, he made us “enjoy the nature.” Everyday he would aggravate us, Brianna and I had enough. We'll make a plan. | 8

On Tuesday, we were so sick, tired and miserable without Mom and Brianna. As we were going to school, I spotted two train tickets to Myeong Dong. Which was where Mom and Alice were. “Brianna look here!”. Brianna paused to look at the tickets. “How about we go on Friday after school?””Good idea! I ’ll write a note when we leave so Dad can't stop us from going.” I stuffed the tickets in my bag and we marched happily to school. | Chapter 3 Yahoo! | 9

On Friday, while Dad was at work, Brianna and I walked to the train station. “Train coming in five minutes.” the train manager. Brianna and I were so excited we started jumping around. As we got on the the train conductor said ”First stop Myeong Dong station, second stop......” I looked at the map, trying to remember where the hospital was. “When you were born ten years ago, we brought you to the same hospital where Mom is right now. The conductor walked up to us and took our tickets, he frowned. “Where are you going?””to see our Mom and sick sister Alice.” Brianna replied. The train conductor thought, these tickets were already used five years ago. They won’t do any harm I’ll let them pass. | 10

When we got there, we crossed roads and looked around. “There it is!” I exclaimed. We walked into the Myeong Dong hospital. It was a rundown place, the floor was partially covered with puke and it was very humid. We walked up to the counter. “Hurry up Jake!” Brianna said. Brianna stood next to a paunchy lady.“Can I help you?” said a woman standing behind the counter. “Yes, we’re looking for a room under Mr Wilson.” I looked hopefully at her. | Chapter 4 Freedom at Last | 11

“This way please,” she said as she escorted us to room 6407. “Thank you” I said. I stuck my hand in my pocket, trying to find the rest of my lunch money. “Here you go!” I said as I put 3000 won in her hands. | 12

“Let’s go.” I said to Brianna as I took a deep breath. We walked into room 6407. “Hello, who is it?” I heard a familiar voice in the room. “Mom!” I said as I ran to hug Mom and Alice, Brianna followed shortly. “What are you doing here?” Mom asked us. “We missed you!” Brianna and I said in unison. “Well we’re going to leave first thing in the morning, because Alice is well...better.” | Chapter 5 A Happy Ending? | 13

The next morning at 5:00 clock, we were in the station ready to board the train. We all sat together. “Tell us what happened” Brianna said. Mom explained how Alice needed to have surgery and how lucky she was to survive Leukemia. | 14

We walked out of the train station. Dad waiting outside his arms crossed. “You’re in BIG FAT TROUBLE!” Dad said as he extended his arms to show us what king of trouble we’re in.” | 15
