Book Title: Vera Wang | Author: Katherine Krohn | Mixbook By: Paula Peyton

Vera Wang grew up with fashion. Her mother would take her to stores in Paris, and Vera would look beyond the articles of clothing. But then she didn't know her future was filled with fashion. She went to college in 1968 not knowing what she wanted to do. She went to high class schools, which changed from city to city every so often. She took classes to be a figure skater, doctor, and artist. But none of them seemed right for her. Vera got her first job in the fashion world at Vogue, a huge fashion magazine. She started off small, helping with the little chores. Later on Ralph Lauren offered Vera a job with 4x the salary at Vogue. She couldn't pass up the offer.

Little did she know she accepted to be the director designer. She made her first design for her own wedding. She hated the elegant traditional designs sold in stores. So she made her own hand beaded white gown.Once Vera knew she wanted to proceed with fashion and move on to bigger things, she asked her dad to help her start her own store. He rejected her many times, but finally agreed in 1989. Her first store in 1990 called Vera Wang Bridal House. She wanted to start her store off with dresses that were already popular. Later she began selling her own designs. News about the store were all around, and her store was very popular.

Goals | Once Vera's bridal store was a success, she felt like she could take on more. She opened other bridal stores around the world. Including jewelry and other household decorations. Her business life was very hard, and she worked all 24 hours of the day. Once things slowed down she made a new goal to start something new. Her dad helped her a lot and influenced her to start with fashion. Her helped her pay for her first store and get it up and running.

Accomplishments | Vera had many accomplishments. Her bridal stores were the first. Then her own jewelry and perfumes. Vera says one of her hardest things to do was her first fashion show in April of 1998. It showed a collection of evening wear. Another accomplishment was making dresses for celebrities. For example actress Sharon Stone, figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, and First Lady Hillary Clinton. Wang published her own book in 2001 called Vera Wang on Weddings. She won awards like the Womans wear designer of the Year.

Influences | Vera showed the world that you should follow your dreams not matter it means working hard or spending a long time on it. She told her fans that even if you can't afford her expensive clothing, you can still be fashionable. Other fashion designers said they took her bright ideas to help their career, too. Vera switched the meaning of fashion in different ways. She turned traditional to unique, and usual to exciting.

Opinions | I think Vera was very successful. She earned a lot of money and her business is at a high height. Her designs are very famous, too. Her accomplishments would be very hard for others, but she kept on going even though it took a long time. Her life was a moving train, and she only has limited time for herself or her kids. I would recommend this for girls because it is mainly about fashion. But otherwise it is very detailed and interesting.

Outside of the Fashion | Vera had 2 daughters, that she adopted. She also was married to Arthur Becker. When she wasn't working she liked to go on vacation with her family. They went to islands like Hawaii, and visited Vera's home in China. When Vera would come home from a day of work, there was even more work to do around the house like cooking and cleaning. Vera says she would go to bed around 2 AM, but she couldn't keep her mind of off designing. Wang's husband said she had a whole notebook full of designs and models, he was scared they would jump out at him.
