27: Differences between the North and South First of all the North was industrialized it also was against slavery.The South on the other hand, had slaves and plantations.

28: Creation of West Virginia | The western counties wanted slavery away......So the government split VA in half to create West Virginia.

29: People in the Union | Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclomation, was voted 16th president and was against slavery.

30: People in the Confederacy | Jefferson Davis,Robert E. Lee,and Thomas Stonewall Jackson were in the Confederacy.

32: In 1865 Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant which resulted an end to the Civil War.

33: Reconstruction | Banks were closed and money was worthless during the reconstruction. Virginia also had no functioning government and its economy was in ruins.Railroads, bridges, plantation, and crops were destroyed.

34: The Freedmans Bureau provided food to poor white people and former slaves. Sharecropping was also used during reconstruction you would make an agreement if you you would let someone rent your farmland, grow crops,and promise to pay back with crops.

35: Segregation is the separation of people. The Jim Crow Laws segregated blacks and whites. Discrimination is like when somebody says your stupid and they dont even know you.

36: Railroads were a key to expansion of business,agriculture, and industry. Tobacco farming recovered from the effects of the Civil War. Tazewell County became a source of new jobs for people in southwest VA. | After Reconstruction

37: Civil Rights Movement | Thomas Woodrow Wilson was the 20th president of the USA,he wrote a plan for world peace, and his plan earned him a Nobel Peace Prize. | George C. Marshall was a military leader,he created an economic plan to ensure world peace called The Marshall Plan, and he too like Woodrow Wilson won a Nobel Peace Price.

38: Civil Rights Movement | Maggie Walker founded the Saint Luke Penny Savings Bank in 1903 . She was the first African American woman to establish a bank. | Harry F. Byrd began the Pay as You Go for road improvements. He led a Massive Resistance against integration of schools. | Arthur Ashe was the first African American winner of a major men's tennis singles championship. He was also a great author and spokesperson.

39: Civil Rights Movement | Douglas Wilder was the first African-American governor. | Oliver W. Hill was a lawyer and civil rights leader. He also played a key role in Brown vs. Board of Education. | Linwood Holton appointed more African-Americans and women to positions in state government.
