S: Spriing Break, Oahy 2012
BC: Aloha and Mahalo until next time....
FC: Waikiki Beach 2012
After a very long journey from Phoenix to Honolulu, we were all very happy to check into the Lagoon Tower at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
The accommodations were perfect- a spacious condo with two lanais, one overlooking the harbor, the other directly onto the luau. | Each night we had free entertainment complete with fire twirlers and hula dancers.
The resort is one of the largest hotel complexes in the world. Tons of shopping, restaurants and of course... the penguins (among other animals)!
On day one, Dylan and Drew enjoyed paddling and peddling around the lagoon.
Even penguins enjoy a tropical getaway! | Each morning the boys ventured just beyond the rainbow tower. Here they got a daily fix of fish, turtles, penguins and most importantly, STARBUCKS!
We decided to explore more of Oahu in this little dune buggy. With no windows, top, power steering or auto-transmission, it was quite the adventure!
After getting lost around Waikiki for a bit, we took the recommendation of some Hawaiian guy and hit up Sandy Beach for some body boarding action. | The waves were insane, and apparently so were we. The lifeguard scared us away when he told us that it was unsafe for kids and many amateurs were hurt or killed. Yikes!
We decided to buggy on over to the nature preserve for a little snorkeling and sightseeing.
We stared at this tree for quite a while. It was growing off the side of a mountain! | Stopped off for a couple of scenic pictures before hiking back up from the nature preserve.
As the sky began to darken and the winds picked up, we decided we better head out. Driving the little dune buggy back was quite the adventure... Our decision to leave was a bit too late. Rain pouring down, we were lost for what seemed like hours and the buggy started making a squeaky noise and began to veer left. Wish we had a picture of the boys shivering in the back seat of the buggy, towels covering their heads! The two moms in front were having a tough time navigating back... while the boys can look back and laugh now, they sure weren't smiling then- especially when we accidentally hopped onto the freeway! Thankfully, we made it back safe, wet and sound.
PARASAILING! | Drew's expression says it all... | Dylan prepares for lift-off-
Dylan considers the parasailing adventure the highlight of our trip!
I'm so glad that is not me down there!
Why is the Captain in such a good mood after intentionally dunking us into the Pacific?!?
During our stay in Waikiki, we met some interesting characters. Jen (a.k.a. mom) almost became a product development manager for Willis construction and was fascinated by the old man with the pig. We also became friends with a family from Dublin, Ireland and invited eleven year old Ruben for a sleep over. Our biggest letdown was never meeting a sea-turtle in the wild.
We couldn't bear the thought of leaving paradise and extended our trip by a couple of days- moving from our spacious two bedroom condo into a small hotel room. It was a little too cozy!
Dylan and I enjoyed a tropical drink and seaside views as we prepared for departure. Drew opted for a poolside nap. After many adventures, we were finally ready to come back home.
