14: "Who Would Have Thought..." Who would have thought that when Chris and Elizabeth entered the JAG School in Charlottesville, VA, in February of 2007, that they would get to know each other by standing in line for everything -- courtesy of the U.S. Army, who does everything alphabetically? Who would have thought that along with our good friends, Peter and Jenny Saam, we would totally by chance sit next to Annie and Rick Waits at Elizabeth and Chris' JAG graduation in May? And, much to the chagrin of both new JAGs, who had shared nothing of their budding relationship with their parents, we would have the opportunity to meet not only Chris' future wife, but her parents as well. Who would have thought that Chris and Elizabeth would be highlighted together in a crowd shot at a Braves / Phillies game telecasting from Atlanta on a New Jersey friend's TV station? The next thing that happened was their picture was soon bouncing around his friends' cell phones (his buddy was TIVO-ing the game), and wondering who the hot chick was sitting with Witwer. Who would have thought that once Elizabeth deployed from Fort Hood, Texas, to Camp Liberty, Iraq, in November 2007, Chris would accelerate his own deployment, in order to minimize their time of separation because if he waited to be told when, he could be just departing when she was returning? Who would have thought that of all the places in the world Chris could have been deployed, he was lucky enough to be able to work the system to not only deploy early, but to be assigned to the JAG unit at Camp Victory, Iraq -- adjacent to and located 1 mile from Elizabeth? As a result, they were able to spend 8 months of their overlapping tours together. So with all that divine providence, how could anyone not think that on his second night in Iraq, May 19, 2008, on the steps of the Al-Faw Palace in Baghdad, when Chris produced the engagement ring that he closely guarded for several months and asked Elizabeth to marry him, that he would say anything but "yes!" So that brings us to today . . . Who would have thought that all of you would travel from 21 different states and China, to be with us during this very special time? We can't thank you enough for coming and do hope you have a wonderful time.

37: Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:12-17 | This is how God showed himself among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 1 John 4:9-12, 19
38: It is a true miracle that we are standing here today. Somehow through all of the seasons of our lives, through all of the forks in our roads, through all of our triumphs and failures, through different hometowns, schools, jobs, and duty stations, God has planned for us to be together all along. It is a complete miracle that you love me. You are the most amazing person I have ever met. Your intelligence, beauty, humor, and kindness are truly boundless. I am in complete awe of who you are today and the woman you are striving to become. You make me so much more than I could ever been on my own. I am humbled and blessed that you have chosen me. You are the miracle of my life. I will protect you with all my strength, | support you with all of my soul, and love you with all of my heart until I draw my last breath. This I promise you before God, our families, and our friends.
39: Chris, I love you. I am so happy to be joining my life to yours today. You are my best friend and to marry my best friend brings me unparalleled joy. I remember when I first met you. You tried to act like this tough thug from hard streets of Jersey. But I quickly realized that you are a kind, loving, and generous person . . . and that you were from Montgomery Township. Chris, you hold nothing back. You give yourself to your family and friends freely. And I love that about you. During our marriage, I ask that you be no other than yourself. I love what I know of you and I trust what I do not know yet. I look forward to establishing a home where Christ is glorified. Toward that end, I promise to allow God to use you in my life as He sees best. I promise to love you in good times and in bad, when life seems easy and when it seems hard, when loving each other is simple and when it is an effort. In a minute, we are going to exchange rings. Inscribed in our rings, we have 1 Corinthians 13:7 -- Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, | always perseveres. These things, I promise to you today, and all the days of our life, that I will protect you, trust you, hope with you, and that I will always persevere. I look forward to a lifetime of laughs and great adventures. Chris, I love you.
