FC: media studies | Who would be the audience for your media product?
1: The target audience for our film is teenagers, particularly those aged between 14-18. In the film, a group of teenage friends go on a journey together to find treasure. The characters in the title sequence are aged 17-18, and the location of the film is in a college, so teenagers of this age group will be able to relate to the film as they are in a similar stage in their lives. | Teenagers would be able to relate to the film, firstly because of the age of the actors, and characters in the film. And secondly because, teenagers are used to being with friends, and experiencing new things within their social groups. The film would also be enjoyable for families and young children, as it would not contain any horror, violence, or other inappropriate features that may deter a bigger audience. Our aim is that the film is suitable for a wide audience, even those who don't normally like the Action Adventure genre. By using teenage actors, we have included younger people into our audience.
2: Our film can be happily viewed by both genres. But, particularly females, as we have used female characters to attract females to the Action Adventure genre. We challenged the common ideology of Action Adventure films, as they normally represent males and masculinity, but we used females. As in film ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’, we have used a female leading character as we wanted to challenge the ideology that men are more powerful, and have a female dominating the film.
5: We think that having a female, as the dominant character will attract teenage girls, as they want to see a woman who is being portrayed as a heroine. However, the film can still be enjoyed by males as the story line still follows the conventions of a typical Action Adventure film.
