BC: "Pick us, pweese"
Dear Birth Mother, We are thrilled to introduce ourselves! As crazy leaf-eating hippies, we are used to being told that we’re different. We live in Texas, have been married since 2007, do research/engineering for a living, and have several furry pet children. Our dream is to someday have a big family and live in a quiet country home with all of our pets and children. Michael has a passion for wood-working and building an edible landscape and has already built a sizeable vegetable garden and fruit orchard in our backyard. Christine loves animals, cooking, traveling, and blogging. We both are passionate about living a healthy and sustainable life through diet, exercise, and lifestyle. Because we desire to have a big family someday, we are anxious to finally become parents. Though we do not know you, we love you, have prayed for you, and admire the decision you have made. We look forward to welcoming a precious baby into our lives and hearts. We hope the following pages give you a clearer picture of what we’re all about. Thank you for considering us! Joyfully Waiting, Michael & Christine
We met in a bar in 2005. Christine was 20 and a waitress; Michael was 18 and witty as always. We were pretty smitten with each other from the very beginning. We dated for 2 1/2 years before we got married in 2007. | Our faith in God has only grown from the time we met. We found a church that we love to attend and we were the leaders of the young married couples group for several years.
Our marriage is very precious to us. We love to laugh and play, but we also communicate regularly about everything going on in life, which has helped build a lot of trust and intimacy in our marriage. We keep no secrets from each other and we are best friends with one another.
Michael is a researcher and engineer by trade, but a gardener, arm wrestler, and carpenter by passion. He grew up always having dogs, but acquired a love of cats when he met Christine. He loves making people laugh, and is a very talented do-it-yourselfer. He builds everything from cat-trees to faux fireplaces. He also loves to arm wrestle and has entered competitions around Texas. Michael loves Christine and our pets with all of his heart, and can't wait to expand our family with a beautiful child. | Michael and a friend designed and welded this arm wrestling table. | Ginger loves giving daddy kisses. | DIY-man | who knows...
Michael has recently begun transforming the backyard into an edible landscape with fruit trees, berries, and vegetables in order to grow a significant portion of our own food. | Removing the grass... | Michael built this arbor and vegetable garden fence. The fence keeps our German Shepherd from eating the tomatoes and our Rottie-Collie from eating our peppers! In addition, Michael has planted over 20 fruit trees including figs, apples, pears, peaches, and plums. | Pear blossom | Peach blossom
Christine works as a researcher and engineer full-time and a personal health consultant on the side due to her passion for helping people improve their health. She loves all animals and grew up riding horses and hopes to own at least one horse someday. She also loves to cook delicious and healthy meals and looks forward to passing those skills on to her children. She enjoys traveling and photographing our adventures. She's a talented writer who also has a passion for chronicling our lives and health journey through blogging. As much as she loves her pet children, she is SO excited to finally become a mother and meet her precious baby. | Christine at the Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia. | She has a standing work station in her office at work. | Bluebonnets are her favorite flower - very fitting for living in Texas!
She took her first horseback riding lesson at age four and has loved horses ever since. | Ethel is definitely a Momma's Girl! | She loves to suggest goofy picture ideas when we travel. This was taken in Arizona near the Grand Canyon. | Christine makes it her mission to show that eating a plant-based diet is delicious, decadent, AND healthy! | She made this pizza from scratch!
When we designed the floor plan of our home, we specifically planned for the front bedroom to be the baby's room. It has a beautiful arched window that lets in the morning sunlight. | We also wanted a large and spacious kitchen since we love to cook. | We had our 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home built in 2011. It's located in a quiet neighborhood near the city limit, so it has a country feel, but still has the convenience of nearby stores, parks, and schools. We share one car and enjoy carpooling to work together. | Our Home
Our backyard is pretty large and backs up to a green belt (woods are behind our back fence instead of other houses). We have several fruit trees and blackberry bushes planted, as well as a large vegetable garden.
Maddi is our newest addition to the family. She's a super sweet and very playful kitten who loves to play with the dogs. We adopted her from the shelter when she was about 2 months old. | Ethel is a 12-year old tortoiseshell who is a recovering foodaholic (she used to be really fat!) She's super sweet, but mostly only shows that side to Christine. | Hershey is a 15-year old 3/4 Himalayan, 1/4 Siamese beauty. Not only is she our oldest pet, but she also drools when you pet her! | Ginger is an 8-year old Rottweiler/Collie mix whom we found as a little puppy covered in fleas. She's extremely intelligent, obedient, and loving. And she's a big Daddy's Girl! | Abby is a 6-year old German Shepherd. She is such a sweet girl, and is also obsessed with her Kong toy, carrying it with her whenever she is outside hoping someone will throw it for her. | Our Pets
We call this the Daddy Hammock!
One of our favorite downtime activities is to watch movies together. We have been collecting movies ever since we met and Michael built a bookcase for them. | Our neighborhood has lots of sidewalks and walking trails that we enjoy taking our dogs on. This is one of our most vivid dreams of having a baby someday - to go on walks together as a family. | We love spending time together. We are both very passionate about eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly. We enjoy working out multiple times per week in our garage gym. It can get a bit stuffy in the heat of a Texas summer, but thanks to a large fan, we stick with it. | Our Interests
We also love to play board games together and with friends. There's just something fun and simple about board games that always helps break the ice and make new friends with people. We also enjoy collecting board games and look forward to playing lots of them with our children someday.
Christine's mom, Laura (Wa-Wa), is generous, loving, and she enjoys making people laugh. She works as an administrative assistant. Christine got her love for animals from Laura, who has four cats of her own. | We are blessed to have both sides of the family living in the same city, so we see our parents often. | Michael's mom, Lisa (Grammy), is sweet, caring, and was Michael's biggest encourager growing up. They have been through some tough times and wonderful times, and have a close relationship as a result. She works as a loan officer at a bank and enjoys gardening and traveling. | Christine's dad, Mike (Papaw), is honest, intelligent, kind, and silly. He works as a systems administrator and enjoys watching sports, and playing golf and disc golf.
Mike, Alice, and Michael moving furniture for family movie night. | Laura is afraid of heights, but cheered the rest of us on as we went ziplining during an Alaskan cruise vacation. This was our favorite zipline experience ever! | Left to Right: Jeannine (Michael's grandmother), Lisa, and Alice (Christine's grandmother); enjoying a delicious pancake breakfast on Easter morning. | Christine is an only child, but Michael has two older sisters, Michelle and Stephanie. Michelle's daughters (Michael's nieces), Trinity and Grace, came for a visit with their dad, BJ, and enjoyed playing Frisbee in the backyard.
We have made so many lifelong friends from the young married group at our church. | Jonathan and Anna are our best friends. They have two boys, and whenever we visit with them, we pick up right where we left off with lots of fun and laughter. We love to play board games, watch movies, and play Frisbee with them. | Jonathan and Jessica were one of our first couples to become friends with after getting married. They are hilarious to be around, and taught us the basics of budgeting, which has been a huge help in our marriage. They are also in the process of adopting a baby girl from China! | We met Mark and Jocelyn a few years ago, but quickly became friends. We enjoy visiting them and going to plant-based restaurants together. They recently had a baby boy!
Chris and Sara served as a mentor couple for our young marrieds group, led a Bible study group that we were a part of for several years, and have become close friends of ours. They are closer to our parents' age than ours, but are young at heart and so much fun to be around. Their wisdom and encouragement over the years have been such a blessing to us. | Allen and Julie live in New Mexico now, but we still keep in touch. They are funny and silly to be around, but are great friends. We share the same wedding date, so we visited them and went on a hot air balloon ride to celebrate our 5th anniversary! | We have known Kyle and Jamie for several years and enjoy playing board games together. Kyle loves to invent new games, and Jamie is a woman with many talents, including watercolor painting, baking, makeup artistry, and party planning.
We have started several family traditions that we would love to continue with our future children. | We love to go pick dewberries and figs when they are in season and turn them into cobblers, jams, or just eat whole! | When the bluebonnets come into bloom in the spring, we enjoy taking family pictures in them...including goofy ones. | One of our favorite outdoor activities is to go on a picnic at a nearby park. We're lucky to have so many parks close by! | For Thanksgiving and Christmas, we cook an entire plant-based feast to enjoy as a family. We also enjoy decorating with a Christmas tree and a stocking for every human and pet family member. | Family Traditions
One of our traditions has been to go on a big vacation once a year. We love to travel and go on cruises. Our favorites so far have been the Caribbean, Alaska, Costa Rica, and Boston.
We are so excited to meet you and the baby that will join our family. We long to become parents and hope to raise our children to know and love the Lord, to be kind to others, and to value the things that truly matter in life: God, family, and friends. Our child will know from the beginning that they were adopted with love in abundance. They will know that their birth family made the difficult decision to let us raise and care for them, that this decision was made from the deepest love for them, and that from their very conception they were wanted and loved. Our dream is to raise our family according to our values and beliefs. We hope to build a legacy of love in our lifetime, and show by example that family is more than blood. Love knows no boundaries, but is eternally carried in our hearts. We love our children, even though we do not yet know them. And we love and respect you for making the difficult decision to place your baby for adoption. Thank you for helping make our dreams come true. Abundant Joy, Michael & Christine
