FC: Baby Piping Plovers | Paintings By Phyllis Dobbyn Adams

I am a painter living in a New England coastal town near beaches and the wonderful seabirds that they attract. My favorite bird is the piping plover. I have always had a fascination for baby plovers that hatch in early summer. These delicate creatures with their tiny bodies perched on long spindly legs resemble Q-Tips scurrying along the sand.

 My first steps.

If I stand very still maybe no one will see me.

I know I am little but I feel invincible.

 Looking for a little lunch.

We're getting the hang of this walking thing

 Hey, wait for us.

Just my toe in first to test the water.

Waiting for the tide to come in.

 Growing bigger and stronger everyday.

 Getting my strut down.

 I'm almost ready to fly.

 All grown up. The End
