FC: Ecosystems Oceans By: Daria and Cody

The ocean is an abundance of life and beauty. The vivid colors and rich wildlife are visible everywhere. Oceans are ecosystems because they have both living and non-living factors. For example, the sun warms the water, making it livable for some animals. The most obvious example is of the water sheltering the sea creatures, and many other biotic and abiotic interactions.

Ecosystems are unique and vary in plant life, location, animal life and topography. Oceans are also different, and make up about 70 percent of the Earth's surface.

Different types of animals live in different ecosystems. Above and to the left are examples of sea dwellers that are indigenous, and thrive, in the underwater wonderlands of the ocean.

The pictures are of a blue whale and algae. While the whale can grow to be larger than a professional basketball court, the algae is closer to a millionth of an inch. Whether or not the massive size difference, both contribute to the ecosystem. The algae is a decomposer, while the blue whale eats plankton to control the population.

This picture is an example of negative effects humans have on our ecosystems. Ocean pollution is a major problem. Dumping our garbage effects many ecosystems, but especially the ocean. It harms animals and kills ocean life, often choking animals, or poisoning the fish.

The picture to the left is of a Hawaiian Monk seal. They are an endangered species. This particular one got entangled by one of the many marine debris that collect on flat and gently sloped ocean floors.

These pictures are representations of what humans are doing to fix ocean ecosystems. 'Imagine' is a company working to pick up debris and garbage along the beaches, and the NOAA(above), also helped to clean up the ocean.
