S: FLASH FLOODS
1: INFORMATION ABOUT FLASH FLOODS 1) A flash flood occurs when water overflows its bank or dry land receives to much water and is not able to absorb it. 2) Excessive rain or amounts of water must be present for a flood to occur, although low-lying areas are most vulnerable. 3) Any place that has anything with can potentially have a flash flood. 4) Flash floods generally occur with little to no warning and can happen incredibly rapidly.
3: Flash flood prevention can be complicated,hard to manage or even maintain. Procedures having any man-made structures such as levies or dams should be inspected regularly. Possibly the best ways to help prevent floods and flood damage is to prevent development in floodplains.
5: On July 31,1976, huge thunderstorms and excessive rain stalled over the Big Thompson river drainage between Loveland and Estes park ,Colorado. Pouring rain evoked a great wall of water to rumble down the 19 foot canyon leaving behind destroyed homes, cars, businesses and the most tragic, 149 people left dead.
