S: Machias Seal Island

BC: Machias Seal Island is Located in the Gulf of Maine, approximately 9.9 miles southeast of Cutler Maine. Sovereignty of the Island is disputed, both Canada and the United States claim ownership. The Canadian Coast Guard continues to staff a light-house on the island, the first having been constructed in 1832. In recent decades, the island has been protected under it's designation as the Machias Seal Island Wildlife Sanctuary managed by the Canadian Wildlife Service. Machias Seal Island is a barren island and devoid of trees. Because of it's location at the boundrybetween the Gulf of Maine and the Bay of Fundy, Machias Seal Island is fog-bound for many days of the year. It is a sanctuary for seabirds such as Atlantic Puffins, Razorbills, Common Murres, Common and Artic Terns, Leach's Storm-Petrels and Common Eiders. Source: Wikipedia
