Footprints by Mary Stevenson One night I dreamed a dream. I was walking along the beach with my Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, one belonging to me and one to the Lord. When the last scene of my life shot before me I looked back at the footprints in the sand and to my surprise, I noticed that many times along the path of my life there was only one set of footprints. I realized that this was at the lowest and saddest times of my life. This always bothered me and I questioned the Lord about my dilemma. "Lord, you told me when I decided to follow You, You would walk and talk with me all the way. But I"m aware that during the most troublesome times of my life there is only one set of footprints. I just don't understand why, when I needed You most, You leave me." He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you never, ever during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints it was then that I carried you. | 4

I really liked this poem because I could relate to the person in the poem. The person notices that there is only one set of footprints during difficult times. Sometimes I have felt alone. I have thought that no one was there to help me through the tough times. However, I realized that God will always be there to carry me when I cannot walk. I know that God and my family will always be at my side during difficult times. | 5

Psalm 23- The Lord, Shepard and Host 1 A psalm of David The LORD is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack. 2 In the green pastures you let me graze; to safe waters you lead me; 3 you restore my strength. You guide me along the right path for the sake of your name. 4 Even when I walk through a dark valley, I fear no harm, for you are at my side; your rod and staff give me courage. 5 You set a table before me as my enemies watch; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows 6 Only goodness and love will pursue me all the days of my life; I will dwell in the house of the LORD for the years to come. | 6

When I read this poem, I imagined this beautiful green grassland by the sea. I was there with God and he told me how much he loved me and that he would always protect me. This poem gives me a feeling of happiness and assurance that God will be there to guide my in dark times. I know that he will lead me along the right path if I follow him. This is probably my favorite poem of all. | 7

Our Unseen guest by Ken Brown Within this home each night and day We host a Special Guest Whose presence in so many ways Shows how we are all blessed. Not one, but every room is shared, And also every meal. Our Guest is part of every prayer Of thanks or quiet appeal. This humble home immersed in love Will now and ever be A little bit of Heaven above; Our Unseen Guest is God, you see. | 8

The setting of the poem, home, is important because it reminded me of the feeling I get being at home. The feeling that there's no place like home. My home is not only mine, but also the Lord's. He is at home with me when I'm sleeping, eating, doing homework, and in every thing I do. The feeling of home is not only the feeling of having a place to take refuge in, but the feeling of safety in knowing that God is always with me and will protect me. | 9

I am Not Alone by Gabriela Mistral The night, it is deserted from the mountains to the sea. But I, the one who rocks you, I am not alone! The sky, it is deserted for the moon falls to the sea. But I, the one who holds you, I am not alone! The world, it is deserted. All flesh is sad you see. But I, the one who hugs you, I am not alone! | 10

The mood of this poem is kind of lonely. The poem described a lonely world with deserted mountains, seas, and skies. However, through this loneliness and sadness, God is there to comfort me and to assure me that I am not alone. There are many times that we feel alone during our lives, but we must look to God for strength. We need strength to get pass the difficult times and reach the joyful times. | 11

Psalm 121 - The Lord My Guardian 1 A song of ascents. I raise my eyes toward the mountains. From where will my help come? 2 My help will come from the LORD the maker of heaven and earth. 3 God will not allow your foot to slip; your guardian does not sleep. 4 Truly, the guardian of Israel never slumbers nor sleeps. 5 The LORD is your guardian; the LORD is your shade at your right hand. 6 By day the sun cannot harm you, nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD will guard you from all evil, will always guard your life. 8 The LORD will guard your coming and going both now and forever. | 12

This poem, as with all the poems in this book, tells about how God guides us. He is there to lead us away from wrong. He is there to protect us from the many issues we face. All I have to do is seek God and I will find him. He will give me a shelter from evil. | 13

Does Jesus Care? by Frank E. Graeff Does Jesus care when my heart is pained Too deeply for mirth and song; As the burdens press, and the cares distress, And the way grows weary and long? Does Jesus care when my way is dark With a nameless dread and fear? As the daylight fades into deep night shades, Does He care enough to be near? Does Jesus care when I've said goodbye To the dearest on earth to me, And my sad heart aches till it nearly breaks- Is it aught to Him? Does He See? O yes, He cares- I know He cares! His heart is touched with my grief; When the days are weary, the long nights dreary, I know my Savior cares. | 14 | 14

I have at times gone away from God thinking that he doesn't care about me. I have felt like no one can possibly help me through me struggles. I have realized however that God loves me more than I can ever imagine. He died on the cross for my sins. He loves me and all people in the world regardless of what we do. He is always there to listen to my prayers and dreams. He does care. | 15

Psalm 91: 1-10- Security Under God's Protection 1 You who dwell in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, 2 Say to the LORD."My refuge and fortress, my God in whom I trust." 3 God will rescue you from the fowler's snare, from the destroying plague, 4 Will shelter you with pinions, spread wings that you may take refuge; God's faithfulness is a protecting shield. 5 You shall not fear the terror of the night nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 Nor the pestilence that roams in darkness, nor the plague that ravages at noon. 7 Though a thousand fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, near you it shall not come. 8 You need simply watch; the punishment of the wicked you will see. 9 You have the LORD for your refuge; you have made the Most High your stronghold. 10 No evil shall befall you, no affliction come near your tent. | 16

God is like the most secure fortress that you can imagine. There is nothing that God cannot protect you from if you seek his help. As long as I follow in his path, I will stray away from evil and wrong. God is my shield. I am protected as long as I keep him close to me. | 17

Abide with Me by Henry F. Lyte Abide with me; fast falls the eventide, The darkness deepens-Lord, with me abide; When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me! I need Thy presence every passing hour; What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power? Who like Thyself me guide and stay can be/ Thru cloud and sunshine, O abide with me! Hold Thou Thy word before my closing eyes, Shine thru the gloom and point me to the skies; Heaven's morning breaks and earth's vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me! | 18

I really liked this poem because it says God be with me forever. Through the good and the bad, joy and hardship, be with me. He is the reason that I wake up every morning. The reason that I live my life. He is my everything, and I need him to always be with me. | 19

Believe in Me by Amy Alamillo It's hard to say that you're okay, In the midst of hurt and strife. You seek and find and persevere, Through every stage of life. You wonder what the future holds, How successful you will be. But you often fail to tell yourself, "I believe in me." You seek to find acceptance, You confirm to their new ways. You lose hold of all your values, And slowly drift astray. Your passion soon becomes, Something very hard to see. Again you fail to tell yourself, "I believe in me." You search for joy and happiness, But somehow come up short. You didn't seek God's will this time, Or wait for his report. He wanted you to ask him, "What is it that I need?" So simple was the answer, "Just believe in me." | 20

I really liked this poem because it basically says the answer to all your problems has been there all along. The answer is to believe in God and he will not disappoint you. Your future lies in my hands, and he has great plans as long as you stick to the plan. The plan is to live your life like his son, Jesus. Do this and all your questions will assuredly be answered. | 21

Th | Matthew 5:3-12 The Beatitudes 3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. 6 Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 10 Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you. | 22

I love this Gospel reading because the basic message is live a righteous life enduring the persecution of others and you will be rewarded in heaven. Just follow God's path even though people will try to lead you astray. You may not be rewarded on earth, but you will receive your reward in heaven. Just stay on the path that leads you to God. That's all you have to do. | 23

My Guardian by Rafael Rodriguez My guardian is always with me He protects me from all evil He always is there to shine his light Along dark passages and guide me He is with me in happiness and gloom He is always at my side He loves me more than I know God is my Guardian | 24

I made this poem to put emphasis on how God is my guardian. He is always there for me and will never leave my side. I know I can always count on him to protect me. He loves me more that I will ever know. He is my guardian. | 25

Praise to the Lord by Rafael Rodriguez. I give Praise to the Lord He gives me night and day I give Praise to the Lord With me he will always stay I give praise to the Lord He protects me from bad. I give Praise to the Lord. With him I will always be glad. | 26

I made this poem to show how I praise the Lord for all the things he has done for me. Without him I would not exist. I love him with all me heart. The least I can do is praise him. He has done everything for me. | 27
