FC: Mining

What is it? | Mining is when you are digging something up from a certain surface. There are different types of minings such as surface mining, open pit mining, strip mining and coal mining

How does it work? | How surface mining works is that the people who are mining will remove a large amount of soil and rock on the surface so that they could get the valuable things under it such as gems.

How open pit mining works is that they remove all the materials in a large pit. It is used when materials being mined is scattered in the surface. How strip mining works is that they remove a long strip of the surface in areas where the being mined is concentrated in veins. It can also be used when the surface material is found on the sides of hills and in valleys

How coal mining works is that you can either dig from above or below the surface. A method for mining is called mountaintop removal and how mountaintop mining works is that it starts with clearcutting and removal of the the living things on the mountain because none of the vegetation can survive the coal extraction. After all the soil on the mountain is removed and they use explosives to blast away the land and rocks above the coal. The surface materials are pushed to a nearby valley and large trucks or draglines will than go pick up the coal to wash.

 Coal mining cycle

A real life example of mining is when people are digging up parts of the earth in a lot of countries and digging to fine precious gems that people can turn into necklace's, earrings, bracelets etc

A short term effect on mining is that it could kill some plants and you wont be able to plant anything there until they are done mining and cover it up again. A long term effect on mining is that it could polute the water and have toxic chemicals in it

How it affects wild life is that it kills the homes and food for animals and the animals might be forced to move to another habitat and it will be harder for them to find food. How it affects people is that it will cause global warming so we might not have the weather that we are suppose to have at that time. The miners will get jobs but they will be harming so other things in the environment.

This method is not really safe because something bad can happen when your digging underground for example you could be stuck underground if there is a cave in or the place where your digging might not be safe like there could be poisonous animals where your digging.

Concerns of disposing is that if we continue to keep mining and moving the soil to somewhere where there isn't soon we might run out of place to put it.Thats also like what we might do to animals since we are destroying their home too.

Something else that is like mining is digging for oil because your still digging the earth and your still destroying homes of animals but instead of animals that live on land its animals that live in the water and your still polluting the water with harmful materials.
