1: The Sphinx has the head of the Pharaoh, King Khafre the Fourth Dynasty, and the body of a lion. King Khafre ruled from 2723 BCE to 2563 BCE. The 4th ruler who ruled the 4th Dynasty, King Khafre, won over his brother, King Djedefre, as the ruler of Egypt. King Khafre was the son of King Khufu and Queen Henutsen. He ruled for about twenty-four years. He is credited with building the second Great Pyramid of Giza. He is also thought of for building the Sphinx although it is not certain.
2: 2007 | The Sphinx is the largest statue carved out of one large piece of bedrock. The Sphinx is believed to be around 4,500 years old. It also faces The Valley Temple of the pyramid complex of Khafre. The Sphinx sits close to the Great Pyramid on the Giza Valley Plateau. It is around six miles west of Cairo. The Sphinx faces east watching the sun rise every morning.
3: The Sphinx is a symbol that has represented the essence of Egypt for thousands of years. The Sphinx has the body of a lion and the head of a king or god. The sphinx symbolize strength, wisdom, and protects the tombs of the Pharaohs in the Pyramids. The Sphinx symbolizes royalty since ancient Egypt beginnings around 3000 BC. | The Arabs call the Sphinx by another name, Abu al-Hawl, or "Father of Terror."
4: The Dream Stela | In between the Sphinx's enormous paws lies a stela. This stela is called the "Dream Stela". Inscribed on the rock is a story of King Thutmose, the 4th Dynasty.
5: The Egyptian prince, Thutmose, was hunting in the desert and got very tired so he sat down under the shade of the Sphinx. While he was dreaming, the statue, Horemakhet or Horus-in-the-Horizon, addressed him. It told him how his body was in ruins and he complained about the eroding sand. The statue ,Horemakhet, offered Thutmose a deal. The deal was if Thutmose would clear away the sand from the Sphinx, he would help him become king. King Thutmose did as told and cleared away all the sand. Horemakhet then helped him become a king.

7: People have discovered three tunnels that go under the Sphinx. So far none of the tunnels lead anywhere.
