FC: THE MOORES HOMESTEAD | REPUBLIC, WA 1979-2010 by Shilah Moores

We started with lots of slash piles and weeds! Sundance lived in a tent all summer. | In the Beginning... Summer 1979

Home Sweet Home | Preparing for the foundation. When Shilah saw this picture she didn't think it looked big enough!

OK the house looks bigger than the picture did! | our home

It was pretty airy inside. We had to chink between all the logs with insulation, then quarter rounds. | Brrrr!!

We didn't get the roof insulated that first year, and all our heat went right up and out! It was one cold Winter in our new country cabin!

Baby it's cold outside, and not that much warmer inside! | Our First Winter

Spring/Summer 1980 There was a huge rock right in the middle of our garden spot. We never did get it out! | Cold frame...before we had a greenhouse.

Chicken and Ducks and Geese, oh my! | We had lots of critters those first years.

1980 Shilah's Greenhouse We added a greenhouse onto the house, and Shilah sold plants for a couple years.

Our first shower!! Sun heated and gravity run! Only for the summer!!

1982 Another Greenhouse! We built a big one and grew a lot of good veggies in it until it collapsed a few years later under heavy wet snow. We were sorry to lose it, but never rebuilt.

1984 More changes! Greenhouse down... new living room up! We also added on to the downstairs bedroom, and added a small greenhouse and a stove room. | Beginning of the stove room below

The end result! | It was so nice to have more living space as the boys got bigger.
