1: Ruby has to look her best for the big show. | Ruby is getting ready for a big poultry show.

2: Poultry shows take a lot of time to prepare for. There's cage training, grooming, feeding the proper diet,and finally, "cooping in." | First thing to consider is if your little chicken has what it takes to be an excellent show bird. Lucky for us, little Ruby fits all of the criteria!

3: First, Let's look at the qualities that Ruby possesses that makes her a perfect show hen.

4: Ruby has a perfect comb. | Chickens are judged on their comb, beak, face, wattles, eyes, and head.

5: Her comb is straight, upright, and red in color. | Ruby's comb has 5 even and well- defined points. | Comb

6: Roby's wattles are regularly curved, and medium length. | Wattles

7: Her face is clean-cut, fine and soft in texture, and free from wrinkles. | Face

8: Beak | E y e s | Ruby's eyes are large, full,and noticeable. | Ruby's beak is slightly curved, and medium length.

9: Head | Ruby's head is medium length, deep, and flat on top.

10: Ruby will also be judged on her neck, back, and tail.

11: Ruby's neck has to be medium length, and full-feathered. | Neck

12: Back | Ruby's back is long, moderately broad, and horizontal.It blends into her tail well.

13: Tail | Her tail is medium length, and broad. | Her tail has to be held at 10 degrees above horizontal.

14: Wings | Ruby's wings are large and well-folded. Her front wing feathers are covered by her breast feathers. | Her flight feathers are neat and in a horizontal line. Her other wing feathers are naturally folded, with no crooked feathers.

15: Ruby's body is long, moderately broad and deep, and straight. | Body and Fluff | Ruby's fluff is moderately full, and her feathers are carried close to her body.

16: Ruby's feet are straight, well spread, and have 4 toes. | Legs and Toes | Ruby's Legs are straight and set well apart. Her lower thighs are well feathered and smooth.

17: Color is also very important for Ruby. All of her feathers are a deep, rich, glossy red.

18: Now that we saw what makes Ruby the perfect show chicken, let's look real quick at what goes into getting ready for her show!

19: Grooming | As Ruby and her Friends Wilma and Dottie get ready to head to the show, they are bathed, groomed, and coop conditioned.

21: As Ruby and her friends get all "cooped in," They meet their judges. One judge's name is Frank, and he judged Ruby's class first. | Show Time!

22: Judge Frank looks Ruby over, making sure her face, wattles, comb, beak, and head are all breed specific and correct. Then he looks at her tail, back, and neck, making sure they are all straight. He checks out her perfectly clean legs and feet, looks at her feathers, and feels her weight.

23: And the verdict is..... | A blue ribbon!
