S: Our Relationship Nov 2009-Dec 2010
BC: 2009 - 2010
FC: The End
Lenny and I both turned to online dating in 2009 to assist in finding a relationship. Lenny was new to the Harrisburg area having recently moved from Long Island, NY and I was working 12 hour night shifts and not fond of the "bar scene." After spending months looking through online profiles and a couple unsuccessful dates, I came across Lenny's profile. He looked adorable and his profile caught my interest, unfortunately I was outside of his preferred age range. Luckily, with nothing to lose, I emailed him anyway. We emailed for a week, spoke on the phone for the following week and decided to meet for our first date November 3, 2009. We went to an Italian restaurant called Gabriella's and afterward went walking along the river in Harrisburg. It was a great first date! Little did we know that November evening, that we would continue dating, move in together four months later, and get engaged the following Fall!
According to an article in Science Daily, online dating has become the second-most-common way for couples to meet, behind only meeting through friends. | According to research by Michael Rosenfeld, a professor of sociology at Stanford University, in 2007-2009, 22 percent of heterosexual couples had found their partners through the Web. | According to research by Michael Rosenfeld from Stanford University and Reuben Thomas from City College of New York, in the early 1990s, less than 1 percent of the population met partners through printed personal advertisements or other commercial intermediaries. By 2005, among single adults Americans who were Internet users and currently seeking a romantic partner, 37 percent had dated online. | A study of more than 11,000 people by the online dating website Match.com and research firm Chadwick Martin Bailey showed that 1 out of 6 marriages last year (2009) are between people who met through an online dating site.
This was Lenny's first time decorating a Christmas tree. It was fun celebrating the holidays together. | We started a tradition of exchanging ornaments each year at Christmas. For our ornaments this year, Lenny gave Britt a boxer dog wearing a Santa hat in honor of her boxer-mix, Kayla. Britt gave Lenny an ornament of Peter, the father from Family Guy, one of the shows he enjoys. | Our First Christmas
We went to New York December 26th. This was Britt's first time seeing the tree at Rockefeller Center, riding the subway, seeing the Statue of Liberty, and meeting Len's parents!
We rode one of the ferry boats to Ellis Island to see the Statue of Liberty. It was drizzling as we arrived which made for a very cold walk. | This was our first weekend away together. It was a great chance for Britt to see where Lenny was raised and to spend time learning about one another.
Lenny took me to Long Beach to see their boardwalk and the ocean. From the beach, you can see planes from JFK Airport flying overhead. We had a wonderful time touring New York on Saturday. The day finished perfectly with our first "I love you." It was great meeting Len's parents, seeing the city, and growing as a couple!
We had a huge snow storm in February. Lenny had left in January for two months of training in Oklahoma. I was responsible for his car while he was gone. It became buried in the snowstorm, but made it out just fine. We had piles of snow for days, but Kayla loved it!
In February, Britt flew to Oklahoma to visit Lenny for her birthday and Valentine's Day. He had been gone nearly 5 weeks for training. Lenny surprised her with a turtle cake he had made (including homemade fondant). Lenny also surprised Britt by giving her a Tiffany's heart bracelet for Valentine's Day with their initials engraved on it. It was a great weekend spent together!
We explored Oklahoma City during my visit. We drove on the historic Route 66, visited a botanical garden, and light house.
Diana's Wedding Jen and I were asked to be bridesmaids by Diana while we all still worked in the NICU. It was a lot of hard work getting ready, but the day was lots of fun! | Jen taught me everything I needed to know about being a bridesmaid as this was my first time. It was great spending time with Lenny, Jen, and Kyle at the reception!
After days of hard work, the mother had completed her nest and laid eggs. | We routinely would knock on the door before opening it so the mother could fly away. | The babies were born a few weeks later. They were quite noisy! | Once the babies were big enough, all we were left with was dried mud, straw, and grass everywhere! | A Spring Surprise!
 Wyatt | Kayla | Paige
The ribbons of your love are woven around my heart
Lenny joined Dad, Lindsay and I for his first time crabbing! We also enjoyed a little fishing!
We went with Lenny's friends, Jeremy & Hillary, to a Baltimore Orioles game!
"Will You Marry Me?" | For the weekend of September 25, 2010, Lenny and I were spending the weekend at the beach. Saturday morning I woke up to find Lenny already gone walking the dogs, little did I know he was actually at my parent's asking my dad's permission to marry me! I hopped in the shower and went about getting ready to head to a fall festival we were planning to go to in Ocean City with my parents. When Lenny returned from "walking the dogs", I told him about a dream I had the night before where he proposed to me. He laughed and we went about getting ready. About 20 minutes later when we were getting ready to leave, he started talking to me in the living room of our camper suddenly telling me how much he loved me and has enjoyed our time together and then the best part "I want to make your dream come true... Will you marry me?" Of course I said YES! It was such a special day for both of us!
Enjoying the weekend at the beach!
Kayla and Justin's Wedding | October 2010 | A Beautiful Fall Wedding! | Fun With Friends!
Punkin Chunkin 2010 | Lenny and I attended the "Punkin Chunkin" Competition in Delaware in the Fall.
Large cannons are constructed that shoot pumpkins thousands of feet away! There are many different sizes and shapes of pumpkin launchers that we were able to watch!
Lenny and I attended a Halloween party as vampires!
In November, Lenny had to return to Oklahoma City for another month of training. While he was gone I took some cake decorating classes and spent my free time baking! I made a Mets cake in class and also learned about a new baking trend.... cake balls! I made some turkey cake balls and shipped them to Len for a Thanksgiving surprise!
The Learning Channel (TLC) currently has a show called "Cake Boss". The show is about a cake decorator that works at his store called "Carlo's Bake Shop" in Hoboken, New Jersey. We've seen the show and wanted to try their baked goods in person! On our way home from Long Island one weekend, we stopped at Carlo's Bakery and enjoyed a few of their sweet treats!
We had decided to exchange an ornament each year for Christmas... little did we know until we opened them that this year we had each picked out almost the exact same ornament for the other person! | 2010
