About the Author My name is Deion Garrett. I am a ninth grader at Winterboro School in Alpine, AL. This book is dedicated to my parents, Cheryl Jones and Gary Garrett. They always encourage me to keep writing and to pursue my dreams.

About the Illustrator My name is Danielle hardy. I am a senior at Winterboro School in Alpine, AL. I began drawing at the age of eight, and am a very creative person. To see more of my work email me at: winterborogirl1@yahoo.com

What is Reading? | An interesting book is a thing that draws emotions from itself. A moment of crystal clear reality in all who read. A good reader gets lost in the book to which they are drawn. A book is a game of mind knowledge. It is a picture softly invented in your mind.

This selection was written in response to the question "How do you define reading?" One of my teachers asked this question on a classroom survey.

A Letter to Kelsey Kelsey, My goal is that I will keep writing for the rest of my life. It is not hard. Writing is an easy thing for me. It is like taking candy from a baby. Why God let me write like this is a mystery to me. Sometimes I do not think

My Goals | that my writings will be good until I go back and read what I have written. Your friend, Deion P.S. I really do think writing is fun if you can do it like me.

A Pond A pond is a place where dreams can be made. A pond is where a bird can fly slowly through the air; a gazelle resting gently by the water and frogs jumping from pad to pad. There is a great sight in the pond, but very few people understand its small sight. A pond is what people see but do not understand. Here, they shall not find answers. The answers are in front of them in animals, plants, and trees. In a pond you can find crocodiles slowly moving towards their prey.

There, you hear the natural beat of sound. It is truly peaceful there, like an ocean. The water is straight forward, strong, and livid. To understand what God had in mind for a pond, you would have to go and see it for yourself. You would have to hear the leaves and see that you understand them; in God we trust. God is the truth and the one thing that makes life great. A pond’s many animals are there. Some can kill like snakes, but some have the soft hearts of birds. A pond. | "

The Ocean A person goes to the ocean to see the sparkle of the water, to hear the beat of the water washing up on the rocks, and to smell the salt of the water blowing from the heart of the wind. If you listen hard enough you can hear the soul of the water rushing to the ferment of the rocks. Seeing the ocean is like looking into the image of a crystal clear thought of a miracle through the breath of an angel whose beauty is unseen from the bright shining light that we call earth.

LIVE WELL LAUGH OFTEN LOVE MUCH | To see an ocean is to see fish jumping in rotation swiftly in the water. To understand the ocean is to know a water world where creatures live and where they go to be free. Understanding and knowing means survival in the deeps of the oceans for those creatures; swimming in ocean, sea to sparkling sea. They shall swim from now until the end of time.

A River A river, so gently and smooth with the air, is a sweet kiss from the lord's humble heart. The sparkle of dust-to-dust history is under the river. Water moves across the land so smoothly in a way that almost cuts through the breath of time. A river is God's creation; a crystal-clear glass over the water. It seems this way because of its beauty.

A river is more than a spot of water. It is a place where fish live; swimming and living in a rotation and living and dying together. A river is a place where people fish together. It is where they play and have fun with one another. A river helps you to understand that life is not going to be forever. We are just here on God's green Earth to enjoy and admire what he put here.

A Waterfall A waterfall is such a wonderful place. It is where water springs from a hill and rushes to the ground; almost a true wonder in a paradise. The fall is the drop of water into a new place. Some people think that water is just water, but I see more than that.

A waterfall is a thing, a place. Inside a waterfall is an immortal soul beating and feeding off of the great drop that is a waterfall. A waterfall. So sweet, so nice is the sound. Being there is like experiencing something new. So spring and full of energy. A time, a new beginning. A waterfall.

Teachers Teachers are normal, everyday people who live in homes like us, get paid more than us, but are still the same. Teachers teach us choreography, dance, math, and science. Understanding what a teacher teaches shows that they are doing their jobs right and have done them perfectly. A teacher knows not what, if, or when people understand what they are teaching; they can only hope. Some kids think they are just plain aggravating and always making us work.

But that is their job. It is their job to do their part as teachers in the community. At a good teacher, students can look back and say that they helped on the way to the real world. The teacher would be a big reason why I got out of high school and into college. A teacher is an understandable person; demands are not that hard. They understand our future problems and try to help us get through them. Just like any kid, I know that they can be hard on us, but it is for our own good.

Book of Dreams In my mind there is a book of dreams. It is a long road down which you should not dare travel. The scary thing is the life-like colored world. The book of dreams contains my most prized possessions. The book of dreams is a golden book.

My mind is a thought-world that I really do not understand. The book of dreams has some things I like and some things you should not mess with. My self and my mind are one accord. Foot-strong feelings are in my mind. Now is my time to show the world my mind and to understand that this is God’s will.
