FC: By: Nicole Sward & Maddie Stocker | Ayo and the Congo rebel group
Ayo was a young boy who grew up in poverty in the bloody city of Kinshasa, Congo. As a kid, it was hard for Ayo to grow up. Ayo always had other interests from the other boys in the city, so it was difficult for him to fit in. Though, his family never excepted him for who he truly was either, and because of this made it even harder for Ayo. | Growing up.... why wasn't it easier?
We are | Unlike the other boys in Kinshasa who's family's were either killed or died from starvation, Ayo's family left him when he was 8 years old. Adding on to all the trouble he had even before his family left, he had no hope anymore. Although, what was coming next would change Ayo's life forever. | Philippians 4:13
Ayo and other boys being forced into the rebel camp.
A few weeks after Ayo's family had left, he was forced into the Congo rebel group. When the army first laid hands on him, he knew his life would never be the same. He left all that he had in Kinshasa, which wasn't much, and went with the other boys that were being forced into the group. Ayo recognized some of the boys from his childhood that would make fun of him. And now they would have to figure out a way to behave with each other.
The Congo rebel leaders were very brutal to all the children, no matter what age. Looking at the faces of all the new young men, you could see disaster was on its way. Though, soon after Ayo was in the group, he became more attached to the people and the leaders around him that his attitude was starting to change. | Four weeks after the day he was forced into the rebel group, he was ready to fight.
First day at war. | Ayo wasn't even recognizable anymore since he had joined the rebel group, because he was eating more and had gained more weight.
The boys didn't even realize they were murdering innocent people and the damage that they were causing to their families.
After the battle, they went right back into practicing for the next war that was on its way. | Back to work.
Ayo had became really close to a boy named Ekene. Ekene was the same age as Ayo, and had been forced in the same rebel group. Though, Ekene didn't like fighting as much as Ayo, they decided they would both team up at the next fight and help each other "get the job done."
During Ayo's second battle with Ekene something horrid happened. The windy day in Congo had the dirt blowing hard, sending it into all the soldiers eyes and air ways. Because of this, Ekene died because the enemy was able to shoot him in the chest with him not knowing where he was. | Ekene was not a Christian when he had died, and neither was Ayo on that day.
A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words. | After Ekene's death, Ayo was more destructive than ever. He trusted no one and didn't have compassion for anyone. Because of his actions and emotions, he was determined to fight harder than ever, so he could keep the promise he made with Ekene to "get the job done."
While fighting, Ayo came across a Christian family of four children. Since Ayo was determined to fight, he killed this family, except for the beautiful girl named Bahati who was the same age as Ayo, 16. Ayo was thinking about raping Bahati, but decided not to when she started begging and telling him about the wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ. | "The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in Love and faithfulness."
Because of Bahati's beautiful looks, Ayo fell in Love! Bahati lived a life in secret, meeting with Ayo every night after training and battles he had. She started to talk to him about God and how her family became closer to God throughout the years. But this made Ayo very interested.
As Ayo grew more and more in depth with God over the years and learning about him, Bahati and Ayo decided to run away from the rebel group. It took some time but they finally did it, and moved on back to Kinsasha,to start a family together. By this time Ayo was almost 20, while Bahati was 19.
Bahati and Ayo devoted their life to God and soon Ayo became a Christian. They are now blessed with 3 wonderful children who are growing up fast, and everyday are learning about Jesus Christ. | Ayo still cant believe he could be blessed with so many great things. He loves his knew life and never wants to go back to the old one. He is now trying to start a Christian based organization to help stop the rebel groups in Congo.
