35: Things to Remember *Switzerland is squeaky clean *In Prague beer is cheaper than water *"WC" means bathroom *Amsterdam has much more than coffee shops and the red light district *Prego means "your welcome," NOT "thank you" *Boat ride on Luzern *The metro's in Paris do not have sensors...they will shut no matter what *Loved the double-decker bus tour *Popping champagne at the Eiffel Tower *Best chocolate in the world = Cailler (Switzerland's Nestle) *Cinque Terre is the best 7 hour hike *The David statue is totally NOT worth the money *Tower of Piza takes less than an hour *Handsome tour guide in Rome *Book hotels before you get to the city ...1-star hotels suck *Make sure you have a reservation for your train before you decide to get on *Don't let your credit card sit in the ATM for more than 30 seconds *Don’t buy TravelEx cash passport card = way more of a hassle *Sleeper trains are the best way to travel *Pack light (Pink suitcase = "American") *Switzerland has Evian water fountains everywhere *Don't buy anything at the Murano Glass factory, wait until the markets *I'm pretty sure "gelato" is simply the European word for ice cream *The Eurail is a scam - it is a ton of money up-front and then you have to pay for reservations almost every time you use it *Skype is amazing *Bring a purse with a zipper and compartments (not a black hole) *It’s ideal to travel with 6 people so that you don’t have strangers in your sleeper car *Carry a metal water bottle – there are water fountains everywhere *Bring snacks and zip lock bags *Stay somewhere outside of the big tourist cities *Always carry a Pashmina (you never know what the weather will be like) | Why I LOVE America: *Don't have to pay to pee *Don't have to pay for tap water *Driving in a car is so much easier than figuring out the metro/subway system *I like to eat eggs for breakfast...not BREAD *I hate living out of a suitcase *I missed eating fruits and veggies *Because I only speak English *We use shower curtains and have normal shower-heads that are attached to the wall *Our food is cheaper, easier to find, healthier, faster, and we have much more variety *There are malls and discount stores for clothing and accessories *We don't have to use stupid adapters or converters *We have ice with our drinks *We don't have to ask for the check...they just bring it to us *We believe in the concept of comfortable mattresses *We wear deodorant...duh! *In America pedestrians have the right-of-way; NOT cyclists *I feel safer here *We have wireless internet almost everywhere you go -Amanda Lauren McDonald
