FC: My Australian Adventure | My Australian Adventure | Fall 2012

 SYDNEY | AUSTRALIA | ARRIVED 27 August 2012 | Study Abroad 2012 CAPA August 27- November 30

Departure: JFK- New York Monday Aug. 27th @ 6:55 pm Arrival: Sydney International Airport Wednesday Aug. 29th @ 7:40 am, | We flew Qanatas Airlines from NY to Sydney with a layover in Los Angeles. Since we crossed the international date line we missed a day, so we actually got to Australia on the 29th. The flight was about 20 hours. When we got off our flight, Lauren found me at the airport and we all traveled to our new apartment on 30 Danks Street in New South Wales in the neighborhood called Waterloo where we got to meet some of CAPA.. | Booozing it up on our flights to Sydney.

Central Station | Our apartment was beautiful. 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, a kitchen, living room, and balcony. Today we went for a walking tour of our neighborhood. We were told to try and stay up until atleast 8pm-- which didn't work out too well. | We will | We will always love The Meriton

31 August 2012 Our 1st day of really exploring. - Met at Mary Mckillop - Internship and Phi Beta Dingo travel orientations - CAPA welcome lunch at the Australian Hotel near The Rocks. Here we had crocodile and kangaroo pizzas. - Our first trip to see the Sydney Harbor Bridge, the Opera House & Royal Botanic Gardens. | Mollie & Me | Jessi & Me at Circular Quay | Morgan & Me | Rachel, Me, Bree, Mollie, Morgan, Alyssa, Jessi | The Sydney Harbour Bridge | The Opera House

Girls at the Opera House | Royal Botanic Gardens | Kangaroo Pizza

Sydney Olympic Stadium Featherdale Wildlife Park The Blue Mountains | 1 September 2012 We had a day trip with Phi Beta Dingo. First we made a quick stop at the Olympic stadium. There are a bunch of commemorative things there from when Australia hosted the summer Olympics in 2000 | CAPA in front of the Olympic stadium | Benny ready and dressed to tackle the wild at Featherdale | Alyssa, Trisha, Kayla, Me & Kristie | CAPA in The Blue Mountains

Then we made our way over to the Featherdale Wildlife Park; which was pretty much like a zoo. Here we had a chance to pet the Koala's and feed the kangaroos. At this place they let the wallaby's roam freely for you to pet and feed. After all that fun stuff we headed for the Blue Mountains for a hike! (mind you this was NOT like a pleasant walking thing this was like the world steepest thing) we “hiked” down the Blue Mountains which involved a lot of steep railings to go down. The view though from the top was breathtaking. Once we hiked down we took a train back up to where we started. The train is on a 52 degree angle, it the world steepest rail system.

Manly Surf School 5 October 2012 | ALL I have to say was it was SO HARD to even get up on the board needless to say me and Alyssa are NOT going to be hardcore surfers. It was a very exhausting experience. The hardest part for me of surfing was not knowing exactly when to start standing up because you have to paddle fast enough beforehand and then get yourself up which takes more practice. But this was such a great experience, I'm so glad i tried it.

Friday 5 October 2012 We arrive at Port Stephens at around 9 pm and checked in. Since this place didn't really have any local bars or pubs we all decided to get some wine and walk down to the harbor where they had a huge playground. We all just hung out and played games. | Port Stephens Weekend | Port Stephens Weekend | 5-7 October 2012

Saturday 6 October 2012 9AM- we went shark and stingray feeding, we were actually allowed to get into the pools with these large stingrays and tiny baby sharks. There were 3 pools to feed them and you put the food at the end of a stick (they eat squid and prawns) and then the sting rays and shark will come up to you and just yank the food out of it. 11 AM we went on another hike up a large mountain to this great lookout point on Nelson Bay. It was a super steep “hike” and we were all just out of breath and sweating.. these pictures are not pretty. 2 PM we went whale watching.. the boat was so rough and rocky. So many of the people we were with got so sick because of the choppy waters, We were able to see some whales but the dolphins were a little more exciting and were doing some nice jumps. 4PM we went to Murrays brewery where we had our wine and beer tasting. This was a smaller winery but we were able to still see the process and everything. Here we got pizzas included with the tasting. The beers were really good I tried all 6 they made at the brewery. | 9AM | 11 AM | 4 PM | 2 PM

October 12 Our flight from Sydney to Cairns @ 6AM we flew JetStar. We decided to leave for the airport at 3AM But anyways we flew when the sun was coming up so it was really pretty but I kind of slept the whole way. The boys didn't arrive in Cairns until 7-ish. After a day of relaxing by the lagoon it was time to go for our first night out in Cairns! We had dinner at P.J. O'Briens and the hostel we stayed at; Koala Beach Resort, provided us with $5 meal vouchers. So needless to say we had dinner at this pub almost every night. With each meal we were provided with a free beer, wine, or soda. Then after dinner we all pre-gamed at the hostel and headed out!

October 13 This was the only free day we had to ourselves so we all (17 of us guys and gals) got our tan on at the lagoon. This was such a great relaxing day and it was so fun just being able to be tanning in October we all couldn't believe it! Second night out and we were still loving spring break fun! | Alla, Hadley, Sam, Kayla, Syd, Kristi, Trisha, Me, Graciett, Alyssa

October 14 We went snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef. We had a charted kind of cruise and we went to 2 parts of the reef. The boat to get to these places and snorkel was ROUGH, especially when everyone is hungover. It was awesome being able to see the reef like that and plus the cruise provided us with all the gear and meals which was even better. | Me and Syd practicing our sky diving faces!

 Uncle Brian's Waterfall Tour | October 18

THE STRUGGLE BUS! We went on a tour called Uncle Brian’s where they take you around Cairns and you get to swim and explore a bunch of natural waterfalls and lakes around Cairns. Which was really cool- we even went to the waterfalls where shampoo commercials are usually shot and we had our own little photo shoot. In this tour we had a whole tour bus and played games, drew on the windows, and were able to check out a bunch of cool lakes and waterfalls to swim in. It was the best way to end our Spring Break week!

Gilligans Hadley WINS jelly wresting! Both Sam and Hadley signed up. It was one of funniest, wild, and craziest nights of Cairns! October 16

October 18 LAST NIGHT OUT.. We went to Gilligans with the people we met on the Uncle Brian's Waterfall tour. It was the perfect night to end spring break!
