S: Girls' Weekend in Boulder July 8-11, 2011
BC: 2011 | Boulder
FC: Boulder July 8-11, 2011
Ever since finishing college, we've tried to do a yearly reunion with our group of close friends so as to not let our great friendships get eroded by time. In 2011, we decided that since we had already done reunions in Des Moines and Minneapolis, it would be fun to step it up a notch. Since Katie lives in Boulder, she suggested the rest of the group come out and she could host. We jumped on that opportunity and had a fabulous time. Colleen, Anna, and Crystal all flew in on Thursday, July 7th, with Anna returning home on Sunday, July 10th and Colleen and Crystal heading home on Monday, July 11th. Katie played a great hostess and introduced us to a variety of activities, some which she had done and others that she hadn't. All in all, we enjoyed our time together in Colorado and look forward to our next reunion (and hopefully Em can join us for that one!)
We started off our time in Boulder hiking Mount Sanitas Trail. We had an absolutely gorgeous day and enjoyed the scenery on the way up. At the top were stunning views of the city of Boulder below us and the Flatirons off in the distance. | 7.8.11
Hiking Mt. Sanitas | Friday, July 8, 2011
Reaching the top of Mt. Sanitas
 Walking down off Mt. Sanitas
After lunch, we walked along Pearl Street and then went to Boulder Creek Falls. July 8, 2011 | We ate lunch at Paradise Bakery on Pearl Street.
 Boulder Creek Falls - 7.8.11
After dinner on Pearl Street, Katie took us to Smooch, a unique frozen yogurt experience. We spent more time out that night along Pearl Street watching live music, Katie hugging a stranger, and a street entertainer with an amazing memory of area codes around the country. | July 8, 2011
We kicked off Saturday with a hearty Rush bowl. We each chose our favorite fruit smoothie as the base, and it was topped with granola. | Colleen, Anna, and Katie fueling up for our big day at Rush | July 9, 2011
Us getting ready to have some fun whitewater rafting with Royal Gorge Rafting company. The Royal Gorge was closed to rafting due to high waters so we had an alternate route that had some pretty amazing rapids. July 9, 2011
The rapids on our trip were fabulous and better than normal due to record rainfall. We went through five different rapids and lost Colleen and another group member during one particularly big rapid.
Crystal pulling a Superman position on the front of the raft. | Saturday, July 9, 2011
Us about to conquer (successfully!) the final rapids of the day. July 9, 2011
We stopped at Garden of the Gods on our way back after whitewater rafting. July 9, 2011
We went to Red Rocks Amphitheatre to try to catch an Avett Brothers concert. We didn't have seats so we hiked up a hill behind the amphitheatre to try to catch a glimpse of the action. We couldn't see much of the concert but could hear parts of it and had a great view of Denver.
We spent our last day all together in Boulder hiking at Eldorado Canyon State Park. It was the first cloudy day we encountered and slightly cooler, though it was comfortable and perfect weather for hiking. | Sunday, 7.10.11
Having fun at Eldorado Canyon State Park.
Anna ecstatic that she found Turtle Man as we were leaving Eldorado Canyon. | Sunday, July 10, 2011
Katie, Colleen, and Crystal hiked a short hike at Chautauqua before Colleen and Crystal had to head back home to reality.
 Monday, July 11, 2011
Chautauqua | July 11, 2011 | Colleen, Katie, and Crystal took a quick hike at Chautauqua before Colleen and Crystal had to go home. It was a picture perfect day to be outdoors and experiencing our last hike. We had a good view of the Flatirons and Mount Sanitas, where we hiked our first day in Boulder. After our hike, we stopped for a delicious brunch on the wraparound porch of Chautauqua Dining Hall.
 Thanks for the memories!
