45: Left Iowa on January 30th - It was 40 degrees. After getting patted down, Lois could fly with the family. Flew to sunny Florida, 70 degrees! We rode in a limo, 11 people & luggage to the Baymont Inn. 11:30 pm when we arrived so everyone hungry, lucky us, Denny's & McDonald's across the street so we made a dash to. Nice place & ready to explore Disney. Took the boat to Old Key West and walked around Downtown Disney and then went to Pleasure Island and ate at the Rainforest. Lots of fun with the animals acting up while we ate. Birthday bash begun, a great big volcano ice cream cake with all the trimmings and Happy Birthday for Lois! This is just the beginning! Went to the New Year's Eve party at the Grand Beach Resort to celebrate Jason's 39th Birthday. Great party, all the trimmings. face painting, necklaces etc., animal balloons, dancing to a DJ with bubbles. We moved to the Boardwalk condos and all the family on the same floor...neat! On Sunday we went to Epcot, rode a boat ride at the Land; greenhouse and fish farm. Saw the Circle of Life and really enjoyed the Sea, rode in a clamobile with Nemo and friends. Saw Turtle Talk with Crush and Imagination Journey with Figment, a 3D film. Rode Soarin', lifts you up in space and you are flying! It was fun! Dinner at La Hacienda, all 19 of us and special waitress, Marcella, who gave Lois a special birthday treat! From there we could see the laser "Illuminations", it was really something to see. Monday, we went to Animal Kingdom, saw "It's Great to be a Bug! " Bugs crawling on our legs, spit in my face and bugs all around us! Ate at the Pizza Fair and Lois got two cupcakes there! Did the Kilimanjaro Safari and the Lion King Musical which was really good. Arrived home to a beautiful vase of roses, lilies and red carnations with Mickey accessories in it. A beautiful card from everyone and one from Mickey himself! I also got to wear the "Birthday Hat." I received a birthday pin from Downtown Disney and one from the boat we took, so many people said "Happy Birthday" all week; especially the workers. It pays to have a "Birthday" at Disney! Tuesday, boat to Hollywood Studios, dinner at Mama Melrose with reserved tables arranged by Bonnie, and with the dinner reserved tickets for the Fantasmic show at 6:30pm. It was fabulous. And it was a little chilly 40 degrees. Before that we took in the Great Movie Ride, 3D Muppets, Beauty and the Beast and the Magic of Disney Animation. We stayed late and saw the Osborne lights with every building covered in | Mom/Grandma Byrne's Journal
46: lights, it was fantastic! And now onto Wednesday, Becky drove us to the Animal Kingdom Lodge, African decor and animals right outside. We went to lunch at the Grand Floridian, delicious and Lois got a "big cupcake" there for her birthday! Beautiful hotel. Rode the monorail to the Magic Kingdom and at 3 pm saw the "Dream Come True" parade. We then rode the train around Disney and we heard Abby yell at us, so we met up with Kim & family. Jason, Michelle, Lucas, Allison, Patti and we went to the Mickey Philharmonic show. We ate a little at the Pinocchio Village House and rode the Big Thunder Roller Coaster, Lucas protected me! Don't think I will do that again! We stayed for the Electric Parade and the fireworks. Beautiful the way the Castle changed colors. Thursday, Lois stayed home and caught up with a few things and explored the condo, lots to see there and things to do. Mary & Julie were adventurers, they went to Magic Kingdom and rode everything they could, even the Carousel! Tonight the big dinner at the Big River Grille on the Boardwalk. Got to wear the Birthday hat and all my Pins etc. And of course they gave me a huge chocolate dessert, which I shared! And had so much fun! The end of the evening 17 went to Hollywood Studios to the Tower of Terror----not for me! Friday we went to Epcot for the day and went to every country and each movie and ride that they had. France was very authentic and at Germany we had a break and a lady next to us had a bottle of mustard that she put the whole bottle on her sandwich, she said she just couldn't get enough of it! At the Americana they had singers all dressed up and Lois got a call from "Donald Duck" to wish her Happy Birthday! Now wasn't that special! Rode the boats in Mexico & Norway, movie at China. We headed back to the Land and went to Soarin' again, best ride there! They strap you in, feet dangle and lift you out into space and you ride all over the earth, scary but so much fun! We ended the day by going to the Steak House with the Iversons...best steak ever! What a way to end a fun filled week with family. Started to pack, it's ending all too soon! We were ready by 10:30 am to board that limo to the airport where they will pat me down again--but that's Ok. I want to be safe, as if I would harm anyone, but then you never know about the old ladies, do you? I couldn't leave my roses behind so I took them with me and at the airport they took them, but it was just to make sure there was no water in them! Good trip home, Rick and Lori were there to meet us and give Gracie to the Ribbles. The Iversons decided to get a bite to eat before heading out ,so we went to Granite City, wrong idea, over an hour wait so we went to Culvers. A wonderful way to end the trip which we will long remember as the best Birthday yet! Love, Mom
