Dedicated to Chris, Baljit, and Nick My fellow buddies in and out of school. Thanks for all the great times and memories we've shared

you may be wondering why there is a picture of a foot on the first page. well it is no random foot, it is MY foot, with a needle in it. i walked around barefoot in chris' room on the night before the trip, and i step on a stray needle lying in his carpet. chris, you really should vacuum every now and then | as for the actual trip, it was something the four of us, myself nick, baljit, and chris, had thought about doing for a long time. it would be our, senior roadtrip. we contemplated driving to many different sights including Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Lake Tahoe, Salt Lake City, and even Seattle. however due to my unexpected job opportunity at mixbook.com, and chris work at camp, our timeframe for the trip was limited from one week, to two days. we left from chris' house at 7 am after a continental breakfast, courtesey of mr. and mrs. langel. in those two days, we made our way from kingsburg, california to the western coast, making stops wherever we found interest and adventure. we spent the night at the embassy suites in monteray, where we found refuge in the hotel jacuzzi and on the second day, after a bit more sightseeing, we decided to head home.

poised and ready to go at 7 am, we were eager to hit the road. standing from left to right, there is nick. despite his short build, this guy is the valedictorian of our graduating class. nick will attend fresno state in the fall. to his left stands baljit, the indian money manager. treasurer of our class and asb three years in a row, he will be attending kenyon college in ohio, majoring in economics. standing to his left is chris. don't let his farm boy appearance fool you. he will be attending uc berkeley majoring in mechanical engineering. and finally to his left is me, josh. i'll be attending ucsb also majoring in mechanical engineering. i provided the music for the trip via my ipod for the roadtrip. my classical musical wasn't appreciated by the other boys but luckily i had hoku and britney spears also on my ipod.

Soon after our departure from Kingsburg, we hopped onto the interstate 5 north, making our way to our first destination, Hearst Castle. We weren't aware Mr. Roberts was also riding his bike in the same direction.

we arrived at Hearst Castle promptly at 9:30. so why exactly would four guys, fresh out of highschool, volunteer to visit Hearst Castle on their "exciting roadtrip"? i suppose there is no one i can blame seeing how i did not help in the planning of the trip. you can thank chris and baljit for the trip agenda. although they planned for the stop at Hearst Castle, they also made all the hotel reservations and mapped out our trip. nevertheless, Hearst Castle was a very scholarly and insightful trip. despite the fact the average age group of the other tour goers was about 40-50, we seemed for the most part to enjoy the tour, maybe even more then everyone else did. nick and i pretended we were unicorns traveling to candy mountain, while chris and baljit simply enjoyed the sights.

as we headed up the mountain, baljit and chris listened attentively to the tour guide while nick and i scouted for other fellow unicorns

while we waited for the tour guide to start the tour, i got to take a picture with this bizarre statue.

perhaps it was the hot sun beating down on us, but this pool the hearst castle is hands down the most ballin pool ever built

at the end of the tour, the four of us took our signature tourist pose in front of the bus. in the car, baljit is the designated driver, i operate the music, chris is the navigator, and nick always sits in the back, just being nick.

later we saw a beach full of sleeping elephant seals. boys being boys, we went in for a closer look. the beach smelled like rotting flesh because the seals shed their skin there. later on in the carride, chris said the rotting seals smelled better then my asian snacks i brought along for the trip.

we made a stop at another lookoff point and took some pictures. on the left, you see pictures of me, chris and nick. chris and i both have our thumbs up pose and nick does his little filipino robot. then there's baljit. winning the least heterosexual pose award.

we spotted a road that would take us down to do bottom of the cliff. baljit and i take the car, while nick chooses to run. | and where is chris you might ask? he chooses the path less taken.

kudos chris, for making it down that very sketchy hill.

once at the bottom of the cliff, we scouted about our surroundings. i later skewered that fish and attempted to fling it at my friends.

we had to make this stop entirely because chris felt the trip wasnt extreme enough. he had to do something to get his adrenaline going. after he broke a few rules, he was good to go.

yet another beach we stopped at

this beach was by far the nicest beach we visited during our trip. however once we discovered seaweed vines can be used as excellent whips, things turned ugly. chris and baljit both got welts on their legs from the lashings. they got revenge by throwing sand at me. chris tried to throw a piece of seaweed at me, but missed and ended up pegging poor nick in the leg. it was silent and awkward in the car for a good 10 minutes after we left the beach.

as we were passing through pebble beach, i saw a sign for the 17 mile drive. i remembered going on the drive when i was younger so i told the guys it was a fun and that we should do it. | during the course of the trip, two pictures were awarded gayest picture of all time. with the coastal air breezing through our hair, chris and i pretended we were jack and rose from titanic.

after we checked into our hotel at the embassy suites, we drove around the town to find some grub. nick was the first to discover this magnificant restaurant but chris was by far the most excited. he has no idea what pho is or tastes like, but he does know that pho is pronounced "fuh"

we went to rite-aid to buy some food and supplies. chris ended up buying the most absurd combination of things. a pack of frozen chicken nuggets, a whole bottle ot bbq sauce, and a liter of chocolate milk. maybe it was the fact we were all tired from being on the road all day, but the four of us were laughing like madmen when chris was at the checkout counter. | being the guys that we are, we totally pigged out on junk food for dinner. three pizzas, three spicy chicken burgers, chicken strips and bbq sauce, arizona iced tea, and chocolate milk. after we ate dinner we proceded to watch Richy Rich on tv while putting together the rocket bajit's been carrying around in his landcruiser for the last 14 months.

baljit claimed he just never got around to building the rocket. i think he just didnt know how to do it. luckily two science olympiad construction team veterans, aka me and chris, were there to help. in the end, chris ended up building the entire rocket while i watched tv.

here chris is manning the command center where he is equipped with a gps navigator and the "Big Maps for Truckers" | all that navigating gets chris tired and thristy, so he takes a break to chug from his liter of chocolate milk.

the picture to the right won the gayest picture of all time award. a good caption for the picture would be, "baljit and chris gaily picking blackberries." going black berry picking was a very controversial issue. we agreed from the start of the trip that we would run a democracy where we go where the majority wants. in this case however, somehow chris' one vote to pick blackberries was enough to pursuade three other guys to accompany him.

after blackberry picking, we found an empty field where we could launch our rocket. while trying to find a place to park, baljit completely drove the car into a huge gutter. good thing we had "all wheel drive" and knew latin (inside joke)

sadly our trip was coming to an end. after taking a few more pictures , we headed back to the car | we then made our way to sanjose to stock up on boba and goldilocks pastries. after that final stop we turned 180 degrees and headed for home.

To: Baljit Singh, Chris Langel, And Nick Quitoriano. dudes, i cant imagine what high school would have been like without you guys. this road trip was the perfect way to cap off an amazing senior year at uhs. i know you each will do amazing things in college and i hope each time you look through this book you'll remember this amazing trip and our four years together at uhs.
