Some came to "The Gold Mountain," and others came to the United States to seek better economic opportunity. Yet there were others that were compelled to leave China either as contract laborers or refugees. When they reached Ellis Island they were put through medical care and many stages to be allowed to enter into the country. they were scared as would believed because of the troubles they went through before. between the time of 1820 and 1890 292,578 chinese immigrants had entered into the country.
