6: "Many women have become conditioned to not ever rocking the boat. You have to take a look at how to rock the boat. You don't want to spill yourself out if you can avoid it, but sometimes you have to rock the boat.” | Dorothy Haener | Dorothy Haener was one of the strong-willed women who worked in a factory during WWII. When she was laid off and her wages were cut, she decided she needed to stand up for women's rights everywhere.
7: Haener believed that women should have their own labor union. She often met resistance from many males but faced resistance head on by winning a seat in the bargaining committee of the UAW. | Later in her life Dorothy met Betty Friedan who wrote The Feminine Mystique. Because of this meeting Dorothy became a founding member of the National Organization for Women. | To begin her fight for women's rights, Dorothy became a union activist in the United Automobile Worker's Union.
