FC: God gave us... Ecuador 2011
1: Upon our arrival to Quito, Ecuador, our missionary Rich Brown shared with us the following story: There once was a village of people that celebrated the passage of youth into adulthood by sending their youth on a journey. One day they sent a couple out on their journey into adulthood. Before they left, the young couple was told to do two things while on their journey. First, listen for the voice of the Spirit of the Creator and obey and second, when you reach the first village you come to, ask to speak with the Chief. The elders told the youth that at the end of their journey, the youth would be both very happy and very sad at the same time. So the youth set out. They walked all day. It began to get dark and cold and strange noises could be heard. As the youth huddled together in fear, they remembered the advise that they had been given at the beginning of their journey. Listen for the voice of the Spirit of the Creator and obey. The youth listened and listened. Finally, they heard the voice of the Spirit of the Creator tell them to gather all the rocks they could carry. By this time it was dark and the youth couldn't see. They felt along the ground and picked up all the rocks they could find. They filled their pockets and the bag they used to carry their possessions. As dawn approached, the youth decided that they had enough rocks and should continue on their journey. After about an hour of walking, the youth spotted a village on the horizon. They walked as quickly as they could while carrying rocks they had gathered. They entered the village and asked the first person they met to take them to the village Chief. The Chief welcomed the youth into his hut and visited with them for some time. Eventually, the Chief asked the youth, "what gifts have you brought for me?" The youth were confused. They told the Chief that all they had were these rocks they gathered. The youth dumped the rocks onto the floor in front of the Chief. As they did so, the rocks became the most beautiful and precious stones they had ever seen. At that moment, the youth were very happy and very sad at the same time. They were happy that they had a gift to give that was worthy of the Chief but also very sad because they could have carried more rocks. Rich challenged us to pick up all the rocks we would find on our "journey". This book shares our journey and shows all of the "beautiful and precious stones" that resulted from listening to the voice of the Spirit of the Creator and obeying.

20: Ganas Children's Home | Many of the approximately 35 children who call the Ganas Children’s Home their home, have a parent who is incarcerated and little or no other family to care for them. Some of the children have been abandoned and living on the streets. Currently, the home is using space in a former convent - but that will soon come to an end. The Catholic Church wants to turn the property into a cemetery, therefore, within less than a year, Ganas will be forced to relocate.
21: Three days with the kids of Ganas Thursday, July 21st, Tuesday, July 26th, and Thursday, July 28th. Our time was spent playing with the children, treating them to a day at a theme park and sharing Christmas in July with them.
