4: Yellowstone

5: The famous Bart the Buffalo

6: We spent three nights in the Yellowstone backcountry, amidst wolves, bears, buffalo, and mule deer.

7: The happy couple | Grande Tetons. Beautiful.

8: Driving through Indiana. Creepy.

9: Next year, now with baby Naomi, we traveled from Wisconsin to South Carolina, hiking, swimming, and spending some time with Jessie's family on the way. | 2005 | Shenandoah National Park

10: Colorado: 2006

11: August 2006. Colorado. The Rocky Mountains, Great Sand Dunes, petrified forests, rock formations, New Life, dead camera, exploding chips, Scum of the Earth Church, mountain lions in the night, resurrected chipmunks, hot dogs on the side of the road, KOAs, fields of sunflowers... it was good.

16: Our trip to Colorado was and always has been one of our favorite trips. Beautiful mountains, remote camping, abandoned mines, and real towns with normal people.

17: Favorite Moments: 1. Naomi falling asleep in the baby backpack 2. Eating hot dogs in the Great sand Dunes parking lot 3. Getting locked out of the car at the KOA

18: Cloud Peak Wilderness 2008 | 2008

19: This year, with two kids and grandma in tow, we headed out to the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming, spending some time hiking in the beautiful Cloudpeak Wilderness.

31: While Grandma Wisconsin watched the kids for us one day, we escaped on a 9 mile hike to beautiful (and freezing) Lake Helen in the Cloudpeak Wilderness. Then we washed up, went to see Dark Knight and revelled in our 4 years of marriage.

33: After hours of weary hiking, we were always sure Lake Helen was just around the corner. And finally, it was.

35: Finally, we found Lake Helen. Freezing, but refreshing. | hoot.

39: Fun around the cabin | breakfast?

40: Driving Home

41: Life in the van, simple, rewarding.

42: On our way home, we made a stop at Custer State Park, where the buffalo roam and the deer and the antelope play.

43: We also stopped at a rest stop to stretch our legs and fly a kite in the crazy winds.

45: We left Naomi and Mae with Grandma, loaded up Illiana, and took off west again. | The scene in the van

53: Can you find Illiana? | The hike around Sylvan Lake was a ton of fun, but by the end, we were hot, sweaty, tired, and ready for a swim.
