FC: FLORIDA Road Trip 2012
FLORIDA | FLORIDA | ARRIVED 27 NOVEMBER 2012 | The region was originally named La Florida ("flowery land") because at the time is was founded, it was Easter Season, known in Spanish as Pascua Florida (roughly "Flowery Easter"), and because the vegetation was in bloom.
The trip began in Orlando at The Point Resort on Universal Blvd. Carlos and Laura enjoyed a nice clean room with a view of the lovely pool. It was smooth driving all the way from there for the rest of their top down sunshine adventure. They spent their first day having fun at both Universal Studios and Universal's Island of Adventure!! On the second day Carlos went to work while Laura enjoyed this beautiful hotel.
Universal Studios was a lot of fun!! Carlos especially loved the Harry Potter ride which made Laura's head spin, and Laura's favorite was a toss up between the Simpson's ride and they both loooved Revenge of the Mummy! All in all the day was a huge success, ending with a lot of energy, running as fast as they could to reach the final ride of the day, Disaster!!! Afterwards they enjoyed an authentic Mexican meal at Agave.
THE WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTER The daring couple survived the cold and dangerous Hogwart's Castle, before venturing on the Dragon's Challenge, when they decided to accompany Harry himself not once but twice on a forbidden adventure.
 WEST COAST | Naples, FL | 29 NOV 2012
TAMIAMI TRAIL is the route that Carlos and Laura took to get to Naples and eventually TaMiami, all the way they had the top down on their convertible. The 266 km north–south section extends to Naples, whereupon it becomes an east–west road crossing the Everglades before becoming South Eighth Street in Miami-Dade County, famous as Calle Ocho in the Little Havana section of Miami, before ending east of Miami Avenue at Brickell Avenue in Brickell, Downtown Miami
 Naples Beach | Latin Kings
BANYAN TREE The first banyan tree in the U.S. was planted by Thomas Alva Edison in Fort Myers, Florida in an attempt with Henry Ford to find a more cost-effective way to produce rubber for car tires.
GATOR EXPRESS Alligators are a common site along the scenic Tamiami Trail from Miami to Naples. Unlike its sister Alligator Alley, the trail is only one lane in each direction and has no fences to keep wildlife from traversing it.
MICCOSUKEE RESERVATION Taking the smaller highway to Miami meant that Carlos and Laura got to see a lot of wildlife in their natural habitat. They watched many alligators and birds along the way. At one stop they even got to see an alligator feeding on fish. It was spectacular. On the reservation they took a beautiful ride on an air boat driven by a Miccosukee tribesman. He was a great host.
This day was truly magical for Laura and Carlos. Every moment felt like they were landing exactly where they were supposed to. The day started in Naples with a hot and sunny morning at the beach, followed by a drive through the Florida Everglades. There was a fair on the way where they ate local catfish and alligator for lunch, followed by a red-neck barbecue, with country music, beer and the best ribs in the world. The day ended on an airboat through the Everglades, just before they arrived at Miami Beach.
After an exciting day in the Everglades, the two enjoyed a Miami Beach sunset and dinner in colourful South Beach. From there Carlos and Laura drove to Deerfield Beach, Florida where they stayed at Century Village with Zadie Dave. While there they cooked their very own version of chicken marsala and chilled by the pool with Zadie. He really did enjoy their company, but it was Laura who was the happiest, hanging around with two of the most special people in her life and making new memories full of love. and laughter.
MELBOURNE BEACH Laura and Carlos drove up the East Coast to Melbourne, Florida where they found a hotel for the night. Lucky for them, they were the only guests there and had the whole beach to themselves. The ocean was warm and the sun was shining bright!! They spent the night toasting by a fire with friends and then awoke to the sunrise on the horizon. Magnifico!!!
OLD FRIENDS NEW FRIENDS | A trip to Florida meant that Carlos and his old friend Wilmar got to reunite and catch up after a long time being away from each other. With Laura and Shyanne there, it gave everyone a wonderful feeling to see that they are all so very happy in life. Wilmar is still following his dreams of being a skydiving photographer and Carlos was proud!!! They all shared a delicious BBQ meal on the beach and then Carlos burned all the wood he could find to keep everyone warm and comfortable.
