AMSTERDAM... | ARRIVED 20 JUNE, 2012 | We started off our trip with a 3 hour layover in Amsterdam. Everyone was so excited for our final destination, and there was very little sleeping on the plane!
After we finally made it to Paris, we were excited but exhausted! Thankfully, we were greeted by wonderful sites like these to distract us.
Some of us felt like falling asleep in our dinner that first night...but check out the view below from our hotel rooms!
Our first few days in Paris, it seemed like we walked hundreds of miles! But we really got to see a lot of what Paris had to offer: *Notre Dame *Le Louvre *Montmartre *Sacré Coeur *Le Métro *Le Jardin du Luxembourg
CULTURE!!! Some of our favorite experiences during our short trip were the ones that allowed us to get a true taste of French culture. One of our favorite evenings was spent at a Ginguette just outside of Paris. It was complete with an accordion player, delicious poulet roti, and traditional dances. One morning we went to the Jardin du Luxembourg for a lesson in Pétanque (Bocce Ball) with a Parisian expert! And one of the other delicious highlights was our trip to a Chevrerie, where we got a tour from a friendly French farmer. We got to sample lots of fromage made rightfrom the goats we were holding!
Versailles and Châateaux | We experienced the splendor of the Roi Soleil at the Palace of Versailles, complete with a bike tour around the grounds of the Palace. Next, we saw the beauty of the Renaissance in three castles: Chenonceau, Amboise, and Chambord.
On a rainy day, we visited Mont Saint Michel. The rain seemed fitting and made us feel like we were visiting a monastery in the eighth century.
 d-day | 6 JUN 1944
In Normandy, we were able to visit the American War Cemetary, as well as Pointe du Hoc, where the cliffs were scaled by the Allies. We could still see craters in the ground from bombings, barbed wire, and shelters occupied by the Nazis.
One of the most beautiful days on our trip was spent in Monet's gardens in the town of Giverny. We could really see the inspiration for his Impressionist paintings, and of course we all recognized the water lilies!
ROUEN One of the last days of our trip was spent discovering Rouen, now an adorable town which was the site of Joan of Arc's burning at the stake in 1431. We saw the town's cathedral, and had a hands on lesson in Gothic Architecture. We wished we had MORE time to explore...especially since the "soldes" (French sales) had just begun!
La Tour Eiffel...we climbed 668 steps to get to the top!
With so much to do and see in Paris, we spent our last evening on a boat tour of the Seine River. What a great end to a wonderful trip! Here are some of our favorite memories.
After 10 days, it was time to say "Au Revoir" to France. But check out some of the great food we ate and places we stayed!
